Default Review: Hand 1, Q8o

[ QUOTE ]
Please focus on the seemingly mundane, routine thing that Hero might be doing wrong (especially in the blinds).

[/ QUOTE ]

I think this is a situation where the hero should call with any 2.

He has a reasonable hand, Q8, and is getting 9 to one on a call which closes the action.

I don't. I might call with any suited 2.

You don't want to be playing unsuited junk in a raised pot even if you're getting what seems like a decent price.

I agree with sharpie. I'd play Q8s here, but not Q8.

Agreed. Unsuited cards have very limited multiway potential, and this is a 3-gapper. This is a very unprofitable hand to play.

With Q8s I call this even with much much worse odds, but given that hero is getting 9-1 we are getting good pot and implied odds to flop 2 pair or better.

Maybe I am the only one who doesn't put so much weight on the hand being suited, I don't know. All I know is that 9-1 is damn good, and given how poorly most .5/1ers play postflop you will get paid off if you hit 2 pair or better.

Hands with some connected value, like JT and T9 I would consider here, in addition to suited hands as others mentioned. Q8 is just too crappy of a hand.

9:1 is an illusion. If you were going all in this would apply, but this is basically a reverse implied odds thing. Even if the flop hits you this will make you a lot of second best hands you end up calling down.

This is a fold.

I disagree. This hand is very easy to play. (And very easy to find out when you are behind). Q8o is not that bad of a hand. There are tons of bad players already in the pot. Who knows with what MP2 is open raising. I'm not defending my blinds with any two suited, but I am here. We've got a 3 gapper with a high card (that is not easily reverse dominated like if we had a K). Also, I am in great position.
