Default Am I starting to get out of the kiddie pool ?

So I've been playing a little different lately. I've been doing well too but not playing as much but I'm going to start playing more now since my bankroll is getting hit hard with the bills.

How you like this move ? Old me would never do this.

.10/.25 NL

Villain has $67
HEro has $25

Villain is 19 % vpip
villain in EP
Hero in MP
Party Poker (9 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is SB with Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].

Flop: 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (4 players) pot = $3

out of position its not good, with position it's mandatory.

I know the converter is not working perfectly, but do you think maybe you could flesh out the action a little more? I'd find it easier to comment if the sequence of betting on the flop was clearer.

woops, you are right. I was in SB and didn't have position. I just realized it. What difference does position make ? He can either call it or not.

Let's turn this one around on you.

Can you think of any reasons that position might matter here?

HINT: the answer isn't 'none at all'.

They play you made is a pretty standard one. Personally I think its an ok play. When you do these kind of things it pays to think about what your table image is and who your opponents are. Many good players recognize these sorts of raises for what they are and will call or re-raise with something like A8.

My opinion is that these plays are more effective if not overused. In most situations I would make the raise you made about 1/3 of the time and I'm generally a real bastard. One other thing to remember is that from the point of veiw of someone betting a marginal hand out of position (villian's position) a smooth call can be as scary as a raise. If you smooth call you will often have an opportunity to take the hand on the turn when he checks or bets, even if you don't make queens, jacks, or the flush.

Passion.

I think that calling and milking after hit brings more money in the long run.

Best wishes

Yeah, if you 35% chance hits. Why not take the pot, and make even more if you get a call and hit your outs?
