Live 35 peron MTT 20+10 (yeh rake is awful) with rebuys and add ons. Everyone started with 1K in chips.
First few minutes of final table i am chip leader with 22K
Blinds are 250-500 with 50 chip ante
Hero in the BB dealt Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
UTG Riases (10K)to 2000K (a LAG weak perhaps drunk or high player)

MP(9000) cold calls

CO (8200) goes all in (i have no read on him just sat down)

Hero mucks
Comments? Was I wrong? I didnt want to risk a 1/3 of my chips this early into the final table. Whats your play?

Not an unreasonable fold to me. There's atleast 1 player going out, and maybe 2. Someone could easily have A-K for a coinflip and possible KK or AA.

It's marginal, some people on here would definently do it.. but I wouldn't blame you at all for folding. I actually respect the play, it shows guts and a willingness not to committ yourself to a hand, "Just Because It's Queens!! You can't lay that down!".. I've heard that nonsense from friends too.. They are all broke also.

I like this play unless the payout structure is real weird. First, the action comes to you and there is between 13K and 14K already in the pot, one player all-in. Regardless of what you do, the original raiser almost has to call getting about 2.25:1 on his call. Also, the cold-caller will also surely call getting almost 3:1 on his call. Thus, you are probably looking at a multiway pot with 2 players all-in and one player almost all-in. That means that you will almost certainly move up by 2 pay spots just by folding! The second thing to consider is that the cold-caller probably has a monster. Unless he is an idiot, he would move all-in with a pair smaller than QQ and most certainly with a big ace. His cold-call with such a stack size against such a raiser just screams AA looking for more to come along. Fold.

This analysis all assumes that your oponents are not idiots and will call given the proper pot odds. If the raiser and cold-caller will probably fold for all their chips, pushing with QQ is not a bad idea. Not sure if I would make it though.

Everyone at the table were idiots. It was perhaps the uglies display of poker ive ever seen at a NY club. The low stake brings the HS kids and early college kids out. I mean really i built my stack in 4 hands. I didnt really play much and stayed out of harms way. I agree that if i were to call (which means i move all in) at least on of the two calls behind. But not because of odds. they would prob just think "man thats a lot of chips, let me get lucky"

Honestly, I think it's a horrible fold. There's a very good chance you could have all three players dominated, with them holding common cards to boot.

Push.

There is ~T13,000 in the pot and you are getting ~1.6:1 in the center pot and will probably be a favorite in the side pot. CO doesn't even need a hand to push with so much money in the pot, and if he did it would include AK,AQ and some pairs less than QQ.

You are still a long way from the money. With 35 players the money probably starts at ~5, and there is alot of play left. I don't think tournament considerations are such that you can pass up on this opportunity.

I was going to say the fold wasn't terrible, but then I saw your description of the players.

very easy call.
