Ivey didn't quite seem like the Phil we all know, he was getting pushed around and I think he only won a single small pot the whole day. It seemed like early on he was involved in a lot of pots and was pretty aggro with a few raises, but every time he was re-raised and pushed out of the pot. He seemed to tighten up considerably until he was dealt JJ and was busted by KK. Was it just cold cards or was Phil just off his A-game?

I think it was just a brain fart. Ivey has been playing amazing poker, and now I'm sad that I have to cheer for Matusow.

It's impossible to know the answer.

I think Phil gathered a lot of his chips early on by making a lot of well-timed preflop raises and continuation bets and pushing more timid players off TPGK, draws, etc.
I think today that he ran into some actual hands that pushed back at him and it cost him a lot of chips. This is just a guess. Of course it's based on only a few hand descriptions and random commentary, so who knows. |

It's hard to say based on the info available to us. It's likely he was running pretty card dead. The table made it clear that they were going to play back at him, so he would have made a killing if he had picked up some hands early.
It was a sixty hand stretch. All good players play well and run badly over 60 hands quite frequently. I think he adjusted to the looser and more aggressive play by tightening up his standards. That's a good adjustment, but unfortunately he ran into KK when he had JJ. |

I assume the majority of the 20 players remaining are very good players. You can't make it through such a huge field without aggressive play. In poker one man isn't that favored over the other. Even though Ivey is better than the rest of this field, he's not that much better.
He can't fold jacks since he can't just bully his way into first place. |

he just called so he thought he was best and nothing happened between that and when they got allin to make him change his mind
or he figured it out too late and had 1/2 his money in there with an imminent lvl jump and a table that wasn't afraid to play back at him |

Or maybe he chip dumped the chip lead, in the WSOP...
That'd make a great story, rofl. |
