Default Greatest sportman/woman you ever saw perform live?

On Friday I am going to The Oval to watch a cricket match in which Shane Warne is participating. For those of you who have no clue about cricket, he is the leading test match wicket taker of all time, which translated to American would mean is the pitcher with more strikes in international matches than anyone else, ever. I have seen Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira and Alan Shearer play live, but Warne just edges them out in terms of greatness. Can't wait.

Lance Armstrong up Alpe d'Huez.
Also Bjørn Dæhlie winning the cross country world championship but that does not count outside Scandinavia .

Last year. It was crazy beyond imagination. The day before we got reports from people there saying that some had arrived several days before not managing to find a green spot with their tent. We drove from our spot at the previous stage at appx. 4pm and did not arrive in Alpe d'Huez before 2am due to traffic. When we got to the start city it was full of cars everywhere, on every free spot of ground or street there was cars. The police had closed the track since it was full of people, and just waved all the cars out of the city to the other side, we were not allowed to stop. We were led onto a road on the other side of the city and people started parking there. Within minutes there was several kilometres of parked cars there. We put up the tent (on the asphalt !) and the traffic continued all until the morning. I got up at 6am and it was crowded everywhere even if we were several kilometres away from the stage (police estimated 1,6 million people).

After walking we found a nice spot in the middle of the stage. There was not so many Norwegians there, but the great part with TdF is that everybody cheers for everybody regardless of nationality. When Hushovd (Norwegian sprinter) was due to come we asked a bunch of Dutch people to join us in shouting "Hushovd, Hushovd". They said they would organize it and with their network of signalling about 500 Dutch were shouting it even before he turned the corner .

The party was a great experience, but how it comes about watching, the mass start stages are nicer. You party with people from many countries all day, then you hear the shouting from fans far away and the helicopter, then the helicopter comes on top of you, the cars arrive, and bang: the riders, and the crowd goes crazy.

They probably won't make another Alpe d'Huez stage though as the crowds became too large.

Grew up in Calgary watching The Great One play often at the Saddledome. Saw him in Toronto a couple of times as well. The Oilers of that era with Gretzky were so good they changed the rules.
