Default curtains results for June 2005

I promised I'd update some people on my 8 tabling sit and go progress so here we go:

Back in early April I decided to seriously focus on sit and go's because I fantasized about the very low variance that could be acheived once mastering them. I was playing plenty of $215s back then but was only 4 tabling and honestly I didn't know exactly what I was doing, despite thinking I did. Probably if you read some of my posts from Feb/April there are plenty of them that I'd disagree with now.

Anyway while learning to 8 table I started from scratch by 8 tabling the $22s and moving up in slow increments. This was a great idea for me because I worked out a ton of holes in my first 300-400 tournaments and it was nice to do so at a lower buyin. Finally about 1.5-2 weeks ago I got to the point where I was 8 tabling $215s and then I started throwing in some $430s on Party. It actually feels like much much longer but I suppose it hasn't been. Anyway I try to play 32 sit and gos every day, which takes me about 4-5 hours since I play in sets instead of continuously. Every now and then something comes up and I have to skip a day or two, or somehow only get in 24, but in general I usually get in my 32 tournaments.

Anyway here are my results for June as Im done for the month since Im going to the WSOP tomorrow...below are my results throughout the whole project.

June 2005 (Rakeback NOT included)

Pokerstars $525+30 Turbo: 1 tourney (-$555, ROI 0, ITM O)

PartyPoker $400+30 Mini Step 5: 12 tourneys (+$2,940, ROI 56.98, ITM 58.33)

PartyPoker $200+15: 363 tourneys (+$20,955, ROI 26.85, ITM 39.12)

PartyPoker $100+9: 241 tourneys (+$4,940, ROI 18.81, ITM 37.76)

TOTAL FOR June 2005: 617 tourneys (+28,280, ROI 25.70, ITM 38.90)

Here are my overall results. I feel my results are not so great at the $22s+ $33s because the first 200-300 tourneys I had to patch up some major holes and simply wasn't that good yet. My ROI at that point was not so high, but I think I learned a few things and over the next 200-300 tourneys it went up very quickly:

Overall Results (Rakeback not Included)

Pokerstars $525+30 Turbo: 1 tourney (-$555, ROI 0, ITM O)

PartyPoker $400+30 Mini Step 5: 12 tourneys (+$2,940, ROI 56.98, ITM 58.33)

PartyPoker $200+15: 365 tourneys (+$21,525, ROI 27.43, ITM 39.18

PartyPoker $100+9: 642 tourneys (+$12,031, ROI 17.19, ITM 36.45)

PartyPoker $50+5: 350 tourneys (+$5,200, ROI 27.01, ITM 38.86)

PartyPoker $30+3: 579 tourneys (+$3,723, ROI 19.49, ITM 39.38)

PartyPoker $20+2: 264 tourneys (+$1,052, ROI 18.11, ITM 37.88)

Total Stats - 2213 tourneys (+$45,916, ROI 23.15, ITM 38.32)

Would you care to elaborate on one or two of those leaks? I'm curious what you found.

Major overaggression on the bubble or when there were 5-6 left....was a huge problem. Also just took a bit getting experience 8 tabling.

do you find any differences in play between the 109's and 215's?

if so, what?

and any suggestions/advice on going up to 8 tables?

More regulars? I play with the same people a bit more often at the 215s. I dunno, honestly I have a hard time discerning the difference but I'm sure there is one. I'm also obviously getting lucky at the 215's so far, as 26 ROI is nowhere near attainable. However I wouldn't be surprised if my longterm ROI will be over 15%, and would be quite dissapointed and shocked if I can't get higher than 10%.

If you go up to 8 tables, start at a lower limit until you feel very comfortable or unless you feel ridiculously comfortable at the limit you currently play.

Honestly back in the day I probably could have jumped into 8 tabling $215s if I knew how to play sit and gos well. However I simply wasn't that good at sit and gos. Since then I've learned a ton about the math, using K+S charts, and eastbays program and have sharpened my instincts as well.

Main point is that I was already a pro poker player and pretty good, but I was playing $215 sit and gos without a great understanding of how to play them well. I can only imagine how many others there are doing the same, who think they are playing very well that actually aren't and don't realize how much better a lot of the other players are. Note that I was winning at the games back then, but probably somewhere in between 5-8 ROI....

Solid results... how do you think the new blind level will affect these?

My results since the new blind level have been absurd. My total ROI has gone up from 18 to 23 or whatever. I have won every single day since the new blind level and very signifigant amounts. I'm not sure if the change is related but I feel much more comfortable with it.
