New Style of Play Earns Big Success
Before I tell you my new style, let me give you a little background info. I won $5 in a Freeroll at Absolute. I killed the micro-limits until I was playing normal stakes. I had my account up to $300 and faltered a little, so I took out $100 to bounce around and get bonuses and lost a bunch and was down to $18, so I did some hardcore brainstorming about my game. I came up with a new plan that is working at Limit Cash Games, NL Cash Games, and NL Tourneys (mostly Single Tables).
Super-Tight, Super-Aggressive. I've stopped playing suited-connectors (unless AK or KQ) & suited-Aces. I've stopped limping in Pre-Flop. I've stopped calling from the Small Blind with marginal hands. I've stopped calling raised pots from the Big Blind with marginal hands. I've stopped calling small pairs (77 or lower) in a raised pot fearing domination or a coin flip. I've stopped playing AQoff, AJoff, KQoff, KJ, 10Joff, K10. All the little $.50 or $1 more to calls that I haven't made, have helped me build my bankroll to $400 in 4 days. |

Re: New Style of Play Earns Big Success
Sounds like you're doing everything right. Big wins with big hands are inevitable at SSNL, so if you cut out the stack bleeders you'll win for sure.
The hands you mention are fine to play, but you need to be pretty damn skilled to know how to make a profit with them. So many new players don't get that. Only one thing I disagree with - you do want to play small pairs for set value if it's cheap enough. They're insanely profitable. Glad to hear you're winning. |

Re: New Style of Play Earns Big Success
sounds like you are running well. its hard to get on a huge roll quickly playing super super tighly. dont get disapointed if things go cold
it is a good ideal to: devalue suited connectors in many situations playing marginal hands from the blinds for a raise but you can still play pairs in a raised pot and AQos is playable but marginal |

So youre playing what, one out of every 40 hands? Meh. One cold streak of cards and youll be wiped out

Re: New Style of Play Earns Big Success
Hey Guys,
Thanks for the honest feedback. I like the idea of playing small pairs more now than before my post. I appreciate it. After a while, I do plan on re-instating the playable bigger cards that I cut out. Thanks again. |

Re: New Style of Play Earns Big Success
I made some similar adjustments a few months ago, namely stopping calling marginal hands from the small blind and marginal hands that are raised from the big blind. All depends on the table of course.
But I do still play the small pairs for the implied odds and I'll play most suited connectors against most opponents. |

It sounds like that's the best strategy and that I was missing out on a lot of EV. Thanks.

Re: New Style of Play Earns Big Success
When you move up a little, you'll find that suited connectors can add quite a bit to your game, same goes for small pairs (which you should play for implied odds anyway).
