Default $11\'s L6+ Need Help (last 8 hands)

Here are my final 8 hands in a typical game for me. I have been having trouble getting into and through the bubble and ITM. When blinds are big and a lot of players remain I never seem to pick the right hands to play... and I lose my blinds.

I know I screwed-up w/ the AK. Every game I play is say 'WTF did I do that for' for one reason or another... usually I am saying it b/c I pushed when I should not have...

Let me have it

Default Re: $11\'s L6+ Need Help (last 8 hands)

Think about this...

If I push in front of you, what hands are you going to call me with??? Any PP or just a High PP, Any Ace or just a High Ace?? How about Kings?

Out of 169 hands, how many hands are you going to call my push with? (especially if I can really hurt your chip stack). 10% of the hands? 20% 30%.

Guess what, If I have less than 6 to 10 big blinds, I'm pushing almost everything. And I'm going to take your blinds 70 to 90% of the time because you fold. When you do call my garbage hand I'll still win about 30% of them with suckouts.

Moral of the story: When you are getting short stacked you need to start pushing more *if* you are the first one in the pot. BUT YOU GOTTA DO IT WHILE YOU CAN DO SOME DAMAGE. PUSHING 785? INTO THE A BIG BLIND OF 300 DOESN'T WORK. If I'm the big blind I only have to put up 485 to win 1720. I'll try that with 32o. (I actually beat KK with 32o. He was PISSED!) The odds are there.

You should think about getting eastbay's SnG PowerTools. (Even if he is WAY behind on the lessons. Hope he reads this.)

--------------Jeff

PS. You gotta push the K8 on the button!

You bring up a good point, I do not know when I noticed, but that particular villain had started pushing a lot, and I assumed he had a strong hand, and was not thinking about what he was pushing with. Reading players, putting them on hands is a big leak of mine. Any suggestions how to improve? How do I determine what hands are good hands to call with? I just hate calling all-ins unless I have AA-QQ (late stages)

I hear a lot about eastbay's power tools, but I do not know what they are. Would you please elaborate.

When does K8 become right to push with... what is the criteria, level 5+, when there are 6 players left... In hind sight it is easy to see b/c that was the 2nd best hand I had

There is more to the bubble than your cards. Take the entire game situation into account. I'd call an all in with 72o if I had the right situation. Playing too tight on the bubble will ensure more 4ths than 1sts. Knowing when to take marginal +EV calls is the trick.

Odds. Let me try an example. Level one you are in the BB with AK. UTG pushes. You should fold. No sense risking busting out this early on a probable coin flip. Now its level 6. You in the BB $200 with a stack of $800. UTG pushes for $800. You have to call $600 to win a pot of $1025. Its still a probable coin flip but now you have to call. You are getting desperate and you are getting good pot odds. You also have to consider that its probably a coin flip but many times your opponents will push other hands as well esp when the blinds get big. You will have them dominated often enough to take this. There is no hard and fast rules. Each situation may be different. The point is that sometimes you do have to gamble at the end. Sometimes you should WANT to gamble at the end. Sometimes you should avoid gambling at the end. It all depends on the situation. You just have to learn through experience.

I don't get why you are unsure about this. Why did you push the 7,4 hand??? Thats the reason you should of pushed K8. The hands are almost identical

Identical except pushing with K8o is much, much better given the stack sizes and everything.

I pushed 74 b/c my stack was short and I thought I might have a little FE left on button. I agree, in hind sight, the K8 would have been a better choice

Call with AKo...this isn't the bubble where there is an uber-shorty and you have a very nice stack and pusher has you covered...your opponent has ~6.5xBB (M = ~4.5) and you need to double up at some point (or run over the table with steals) to really solidify your stack here.

Push K8o on button...you have 6.5xBB (your M = ~4.5) which is enough chips for some FE but also a short enough stack to be helped a ton by winning the blinds (as you now have FE next orbit too). If your opponent behind you flipped up their cards you'd be surprised how well your hand ranks vs. theirs. You *have* to push this.

Interestingly enough with 74o on the button the next time around I'm probably *not* pushing in the $11s. You are being too desperate. 74o is really one of the worst hand you could be dealt there. I'd be pushing a lot there, but not that. I'm probably trying to get my $$ in CO or CO+1 with at least a face card.
