Deal with the 4k/8k game?
Just watched the Greenstein cardplayer articles and he mentions that the 4k/8k game they play is a private game. How do they make money if this is true?

Like in any poker game, the better players make money from the worse players.

uhm, in the video he says the big game is open to anybody, and theres always a seat open
i'm guessing random rich fish (kinda like andy beal, but probably not that much GAMBOOOL in them, i guess) or recent tourney winners is where the new money comes from, instead of the money being recycled over and over between the regulars. also remember that they do a lot of their playing outside of the bellagio when its not the wsop. |

Re: Deal with the 4k/8k game?
When they are in other casinos, they sometimes play with $1 chips, agreeing to pay back whatever is won. I assume this presents problems when an unknown or little known player wants to join.

so each 1 dollar chip is really 1k? [/ QUOTE ] I assume so, since I think the lowest blinds used are 1k/2k for the no limit games. |

The pile of chips in front of each them just gets downright silly. That's why Danny N. doesn't play in the Big Game -- he knows that if his chip stack collapsed and fell onto his puny little frame, he'd be crippled for life. |

Re: Deal with the 4k/8k game?
I have thought a lot about this game too. Barry G says that even though all players are very good, they are not equal. Thus, some are getting the best of it. That makes sense.
But what does not really make sense to me, is why the losing regular players in this game doesn't play regular high limit games instead, in which they probably would be big winners. On the other hand... From what I understand, there are sometimes rich suckers who sits down and loses a bundle (so I don't know about the game being "private"). So perhaps none of the regulars are actually losing? (Seems unlikely though.) I don't know. But the whole concept of the game fascinates me. |

Re: Deal with the 4k/8k game?
If you believe Barry Greenstein, the only players that consistently win money are Phil Ivey, Doyle Brunson, Chip Reese, Chau Gaing (sp?), and, of course, Barry Greenstein. So I'm sure they have room for other players who, although extremely good, aren't as good as these five.
Also, according to Barry (although he hasn't said it in quite so many words), Gus Hansen is the fish of the table. |
