Geek question: any Dells have AGP slots (for my video card)?
So I need to buy a new desktop...but just 4 months ago, I dropped $160 on the AGP-compatible Matrox dual DVI video card so I could set up my twin 2001fps.
But looking at the specs on every model on the Dell website, it looks like NONE of them have AGP slots...only PCI (and now PCI-express) slots. Are AGP slots simply a thing of the past? Do I have any options other than buying another expensive video card? Are all dual-DVI cards now PCI or PCI-express compatible? |

Re: Geek question: any Dells have AGP slots (for my video card)?
Well my roomate has a dell and went to buy a video card to be able to have enough resolution to 4 table and be able to add another monitor. We got back to the apartment and guess what NO AGP slot. Its a fairly new Dell, 8 month old, and couldn't believe it didn't have one. Guess we should have looked first but we were pushed for time. BTW, b4 you buy a Dell check cyberpowerpc.com, thats where I bought my computer and haven't had any troubles out of it. I got it 3 years ago with a video card that will hold two monitors and a bunch of other goodies, a 20 monitor, and really good speakers and it was only about $1100!!!
This might be something your are looking for. |

yeah, the reason i posted this Q is b/c i checked out the tech specs on EVERY dell desktop model, and NONE of them had AGP slots...only PCI and PCI-express.
i'd hate to think that i'll have to chuck my $160 matrox dual dvi card just b/c AGP slots may be becoming a thing of the past. |

Re: Geek question: any Dells have AGP slots (for my video card)?
The computer i bought, like i said it was 3 years ago, from that site has a AGP slot and I have a great video card that I can multi monitor right now if i had the 2nd monitor (working on that part as we speak). Personally, I HATE Dell PC's so I'm kinda against going with a Dell. The Dell my friend has won't even support a high resolution so he can't even efficiently 4 table. Of course I believe you could order a video card with your computer that had dual monitor slots but you said you already had one. I would probably check other places and see if I could find a good computer with a AGP slot. Hope you find something, and if I find anything worth while I'll PM you!!

I don't know about Dell, but you can definately build your own with an AGP slot.

I didn't see a AGP slot only PCI. So no AGP slots in Dell computers.

According to my Dimension 4600 manual, which I bought a year ago, mine has an AGP slot.
...at least I hope it does since I just ordered a AGP card from Newegg... |

I'm about to leave work and I'll check what model he has. I sure hope your purchase doesn't end up like his. It sucks to have a $120 card with no place to stick it!
