I thought I could push him off with a bet on the turn.

I didnt like being raised.

Calling the river seems bad now.

I think I wasted two bets.

Check call the turn. Fold river UI. I think you already knew this. The way the hand played out, I don't think you have any business calling the river.

Is there a hand he'd raise the flop with but fold to a single bet on the turn on the blankest of blanks?

To me it looks like the only draw he could be raising on the flop is one where giving him a free card wouldn't be very bad for you. So I would check the turn, call a bet. If he checked I would check call the river. If he bet I would fold the river unimproved.

I have to think this is a hand for very straightforward play:

Raise flop
Bet turn. Call raise.
Check call turn.
Fold the river if you don't hit.

The 4 is simply not a scary enough card on the turn to make a bluff lead worthwhile. Out of position I don't think you can generate much if any fold equity in this pot. So I think you have to go into passive mode.

That is what I thought.

I played badly tonight....I took some bad beats then wasted bets.

This is why I can't get my win rate up to 2 per 100 at 3/6.

Betting the turn is totally pointless. If he has something like a pair of tens, the 4 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] is not going to scare him. If he was raising on the draw, he isn't going to fold either. So you have zero folding equity in this spot, so this bet pretty much has to be for value. And if you are so sure that he is on the draw (enough to value bet it), you should have just 3-bet the flop for value.

I would 3-bet the flop. You are 2:1 dog to hit your flush, even if your AJ outs are worthless.

I am not sure why you wouldn't lead the turn here, (esp if you 3bet the flop). You are roughly 4:1 to get your club on the river (again completely discounting your AJ). If he raises, then you are getting exactly 4:1, right? Given the fact that you can't completely discount your AJ this is +EV, or am I missing something here?

Being raised on the turn with approximately 20 to 30% chance of winning this hand is certainly not +EV.
