Default Negreanu: Cassidy may have outplayed me, or he may just be lucky...

"In this match against Joe I have no idea if I'm being outplayed, outcarded, or a combination of both."

yes, modest in defeat indeed...

Er that is fairly standard praise. Basically he's saying he has no idea where he is in the game which suggested that JC was playing extremely well.

The worst feeling in poker is when you have no idea if yu're being outcarded or outplayed. outplayed you adjust outcarded you can feel confident either/or you're in trouble.

Very good point. I hadn't thought of it that way when I read the post but it's 100% true.

A similar feeling is when you know you're getting outcarded, but you're not sure if you're also getting outplayed. Everyone knows the feeling, the guy at your table getting hit in the face with the deck, making it so you can't tell if he's (in addition) really playing well or is just a luckbox. This is opposed to the guy getting hit in the face with the deck who you can clearly tell is a total donk.

this is from his blog post after losing to cassidy.

i know the feeling well, sure. but to those that are saying how gracious he is in defeat (to oppenheim, and now cassidy), i ask this: just b/c we know the feeling, is it the gracious, modest thing to voice it?

the way i translate that quote is "cassidy is very good, but i'm not sure he outplayed me tonight." i've got no problem with him voicing it, or feeling it, or whatever. i agree that as a world class player, he NEEDS to feel that. but when he says it in public, he is automatically disqualified, in my book, from the gracious in defeat group.

the way he's been doing these writeups is to praise and praise and praise his opponent, and then say his opponent was lucky. of course his writeup of the first one was way worse in this regard than this one, but...the attitude is still there.

is my point clear now?

considering that's not even close to the point you tried making at first...no, it's not clear.

And if he does have a problem with the guy making it public, sounds like "modesty" isn't his problem.

it's exactly my point in the OP. here it is again: DN is not really very modest in defeat. he only pretends to be.

NO, IT'S NOT, it's from the middle. Try Again.

What would happen if we took an opponent who you know was slightly better or worse than you, but didn't know which, and you palyed him in limit holdem for 4 hours, and he was up. Right after, would you say "he's defintely better than me?" It's ludicrous to except him to act any more modestly.

It's not even a matter of modesty, it's a matter of it being virtually impossible to ascertain who is better based on 120 hands of limit holdem, when you can only see one set of cards. He MIGHT be better than me is the most definitive statement anyone that understands poekr could possibly make.

it's clear that you aren't making any sense, 3 or more examples have been posted that state differently then your o.p. (again containing direct quotes from daniels blog), and that you are both stubborn and have a difficult time comprehending simple sentence structures but you may have a future in psychology since you seem to feel what dn is really implying here. Go get em' tiger.

let me be the first to thank you for clearing that up.
