5/10 question
Thanks in for advance. I have played mostly NL, I am venturing into limit lately. I have been dealt a little less than 10,000 hands at 5/10. Here's my question: Shouldn't these people be playing 1/2? Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the inflated pots from dumb calls, but I'm wondering if I've got enough hands at this limit to really know the play. It just seems as though the play is extremely bad. For players with more hands than me, is this your observation as well?

Send me their usernames and I'll tell you if they're good or not. [/ QUOTE ] That's a suspicious request if there ever was one... My observations, with only about 5K hands at 5/10 full ring (I'm still focusing on 3/6, w/some 2/4 sprinkled in), is that the play is pretty awful. It is, however, a different kind of awful than 2/4 and 3/6. At 5/10 the aggression is cranked up several degrees, and the number of no-pair showdowns is probably 2 to 3x as high. In the 6-max games, it is even more intense... but I don't play those. Look through PokerBob's post ( here ) for more interesting insight into 5/10 games. Bluff turn raises with underpairs are also a lot more common, and really, really profitable if you see them coming or recognize them when they happen. I think Nate'tha'Great has a post somewhere about just calling these donk-raises on the turn so you can raise the river, thus getting more $$ in with less risk. I think there are also more guys at 5/10 that are just plain tards than at 3/6. Could be the 3/6 game just isn't enough action for the true maniacs... I don't know. But I do know this: my data mining has identified a handful of players who are MASSIVE donators, and I will never pass up a chance to sit with them. Good luck & see you around the tables. |

[/ QUOTE ] I'll try to actually answer the original question: Many people on twoplustwo are broke college students for whom 5/10 seems like high stakes gambling. It is not. Go to a casino and see how many people are happily playing blackjack for $25 a hand or more. For many adults who gamble recreationally, $1/2 is not fun or interesting. On a really good date you are going to win what? $100? People who play for fun want to play at a level where the money involved at least has some meaning to them. |
