Portable hard drive for poker apps?
Is anyone currently using a portable hard drive to move around their poker apps between different computers?
Ideally, I'd like to have three Party skins, Poker Tracker and PlayerView in a portable format so that I can use it at home, at work (if/when time allows) and perhaps when I'm on the road. Can these programs run off a portable hard drive, or are they meant mainly for data files only? Is anyone currently doing this? Do you have one that you'd recommend? I'd love to know that I can take my PokerTracker database with me. Thanks... |

Re: Portable hard drive for poker apps?
I use a 20GB Soyo Cigar USB HD to keep my gambling needs away from the work laptop. It's pretty freaking great. $120 at newegg.

Re: Portable hard drive for poker apps?
Awesome -- thanks!
So you're able just to plug the portable into your regular work computer and run all the programs off that hard drive? Fantastic -- that's exactly what I'm looking for. Do you use PokerTracker too? |

Re: Portable hard drive for poker apps?
No problem.
I have all my poker sites installed (Party, Stars, Bodog, Pacific, Cryptos, etc, etc), Tracker, a bunch of casinos, and itunes. My tracker database isn't that big at the moment (<20,000 hands) and I don't have a problem importing new ones, but I do have trouble compacting the databases sometimes. (It times out) The USB 2.0 port usually works, but if you have a firewire port or something faster, you might want to consider a drive that supports that, especially if you're going to maintain a large PT database. Anyway, like I said, it works great for me and it's very small (portable). |

Do the poker applications make changes to your registry when running from the external drive?
Would Party HH go the the external drive? Thanks for the info!! |

Re: Portable hard drive for poker apps?
Good questions. From what I understand, computers will recognize the portable drive just like another C (main) drive, so I'm sure you could set up PokerTracker to save hand histories to the portable drive.
In any manner, I'm going to pick up one of these over the weekend and see if I can get everything working. I'll post a review once completed. |

[/ QUOTE ] I checked my registry and, yes, all the Party stuff is there. Yes, the HH go directly to the external drive if that's where you install the client to. |
