In case anyone here is thinking of going pro and is not familiar with Maslow's hierarchy of needs yet, I would recommend reading:
http://www.ship.edu/~cgboeree/maslow.html Although pro poker playing might help you with the first three levels, it will do very little for the upper two levels. (As for the third level: pro poker playing would probably only satisfy your belonging needs to the extent that being a member of a gang, or other lowly esteemed section of society would.) |

So the only way we find meaning in our life is through our jobs?

Your job is, hopefully, going to take up more time than any other activity in your life so make a good choice here:
Not a time, and self-actualization wasting one. Good luck! |

Your job is, hopefully, going to take up more time than any other activity in your life [/ QUOTE ] I do not hope to spend more time doing something for money than any other activity. In fact, I dream of the opposite. More time to: visit friends and relatives volunteer, if i so choose make music or other creative but unpaid activity. One day I hope you understand the point that you seem to keep missing. |

Well you named several activities, which do you plan to spend more time doing than in your "job"?
Why not get a job making music since it sounds like you like that? Did you flunk out of music and have to turn to poker as a desperate second choice to make money? I know for many pros poker was not their first choice, so you won't be alone. This fails to convince me, however, that pro poker are the "winners" they say they are, though: A real winner would make the big bucks via their music, and not have to give up so much of his or her time to poker. Right? Starting to see what I'm getting at? |

[/ QUOTE ] Yup, and everybody who loves gardening should clearly be able to plant tomatoes in the [censored] dirt and make enough money at it to provide the type of life they wish for themselves and the ones they love, right? Maybe since I think I wish to devote much of my life to my children, I should look into a career in loving them? I'm not going to defend the practicality and mental-health aspects of deciding to become a professional poker player. But as both a full-time poker player, and extremely avid musician, this is laughable. |

So, what level of maslow's heirarchy does trolling an internet forum serve?

Again you pro poker players can dream that anyone who does not think you are the [censored] is a troll, but dreaming such and having other pros nod their heads and agree with you will also not make it such.
Some of us can just see through it all. |

Ok, I'll rephrase it. Which level of need are we serving right now?
