Taj for thieves and dirtbags???
I was playing at the Trop on friday night and as I sat down there was a conversation going on among some regulars at the table about what a hell hole the Taj is and everyone was basically ripping the poker room there. The general agreement among the regulars was that the Taj is basically a den of thieves and dirtbags who will roll you in the alley in a heartbeat.
I have played several times at the Taj and I actually like it there. Although it is not as plush as the Trop and you are perhaps more likely to be hassled by hard luck railbirds for a handout I never felt that I was going to get jumped while going to the bathroom or catching a cab. I chalked it up to these guys simply talking out of their collective asses or being too easily intimidated by the yelling that occasionally erupts, but it made me curioius- has anyone had an experience like this at Taj??? |

Re: Taj for thieves and dirtbags???
I just went there for the first time and I love it. Compared to what I have seen before the room is huge. They have all kinds of games going at all limits even on a Tuesday night. If I was going on a poker trip I would go there over Vegas any day.

has anyone had an experience like this at Taj??? No. [/ QUOTE ] I know at least one old guy was pick pocketed on his way to the garage for a gew thousand about 3 years ago. I also know about a year and a half ago a couple had someone come into their room at night and take a womans pocket book..... the door hadnt "clicked" when the closed it (of course this isnt poker room related) The taj is imho scummier than the other rooms, not so scummy when you walk in, but gets scummier as you approach the high limit end of the room |

Re: Taj for thieves and dirtbags???
Seems pretty off to me based on me handful of visits there.
Besides valet is literally 20 feet from the poker room, if you can get rolled and robbed in 20 feet amidst 50 people...then both you and the Taj security system have major issues. One issue I have heard confirmed by several different parties is that (like most every cash game) you do not want to leave money on the table if you get up and go somewhere (say bathroom, whatever) as the Taj is apparently notorious for "thieves" jacking your cash off the table. Take it off when you leave, and put it back on when you come back. |

Hell, even in the dingy little private clubs I used to play at in toronto, I wouldn't think twice about leaving my chips on the table for a bathroom break. What are you supposed to do, balance your rack on the urinal? I'd rather have my chips on the table in full view of the cameras... |

Re: Taj for thieves and dirtbags???
At Taj, it is acceptable (generally) to remove $100 bills and high denomination chips from the table when you take a break. I always do this (or have my 100 bills sufficiently buried...never leave Franklins leaning against the rail so they can be quickly snatched).

Re: Taj for thieves and dirtbags???
An amusing story.
I was at a stud game one time when a player was picked up by the floor. We described the player to the floor as a yound asian person. The floor took the chips and put them in their safe keeping. The guy returns and wants his chips. Someone had apparently gone to the front desk, said that he had been picked up from the table, identified the table number and approx chip count. The desk handed the money over. It was not the actual player. Turned out they handed the money to a non-asian guy too! Taj made good to the player. On the other hand, I have left chips on the table many times and have never had any issues nor any worries. I take the bills and odd big chips off. Of course I never leave for very long either. Dinner is always a pickup. I always valet park (at all casinos, incl the Borg and the Trop) and avoid going out on the streets at night. If I do I carry only a few dollars, that I would be happy to hand over if someone tries a mugging. For any one staying at one of the flea bag motels in AC, I suggest getting a cash box at the cage and leaving all money in there. |

Re: Taj for thieves and dirtbags???
I've never felt like I needed to remove my chips from the table whenever I use the restroom at the Taj.
It seems like a decent place...granted, I haven't played at any other casinos yet. |

[/ QUOTE ] In rooms I have played in where I felt leaving money on the table was an issue (unfortunately, there have been some, which says something...), my MO is the following: ~Buy in for the lowest amount allowed ~Put my hundreds under my chips but sticking out in plain view ~Pick up my bills when leaving the table, show them plainly to the dealer and all of the players, and make a parting remark such as, "I have 2k in hundreds, and I will bring all of it back when I return." I have never been challenged when using this method. I won't say it's not because I am a woman. Of that, I'm not quite sure, but I do everything very out in the open, very overtly, not trying to be sneaky or hide anything. At tables where the players seem a bit uptight, I will even make my statement slightly questioning, "...I'll bring this exact amount back to the table with me, if that is okay with everyone..." I can't say this would work with every cardroom in every situation, but in the past three years I've been playing full-time, I have never once been challenged on it, nor have I ever abused it, I bring the exact amount back with me, not one hundred less.
