Question for the Foxwoods regulars
In about 2 weeks I plan to be playing some significant, regular hours at either the foxwoods 4-8 or 5-10. I am indifferent from a bankroll perspective unless people think the 5-10 kill will really increase my swings, and even then I am mostly looking for opinions as to which game is better over the long run. Obviously, if one or the other is looking particularly attractive I will play that. My primary concern is the game, secondary is opinions on what effect the kill has. I have my own opinion, but I don't want to poison the responses. Thanks in advance.

Re: Question for the Foxwoods regulars
I have a hard time telling the two games apart as far as average fishiness goes. Yeah, the $5/10 Kill has bigger swings, but you're probably not going to find it to be any tougher than $4/8.

Re: Question for the Foxwoods regulars
Table selection is a lot more important at the 5/10. I've been in some tight somewhat tough 5/10s occaisionally. I've never seen a 4/8 that wasn't a total donkfest.

Re: Question for the Foxwoods regulars
I've not actually played the 5/10 kill, but my understanding is the kill is invoked on two pots to the same player, $100 min for the second. Pretty standard. However, the kill is not taken off until a pot of less than $100.
My question to the regulars in this game is, wouldn't that make 70-80% of the hands kill hands? At least if the game's as loose as I'd like it to be.... I've been in some slightly tough $4/8 games, but maybe as a relative beginner my standards may be lower. By "slightly tough" I'm talking 3-4 to the flop, some selective bluffing, etc. I've also played AKs in a 5-way capped pot, caught quad aces, and won a nice pot, making me wonder how you could construct 4 other hands without an ace that would merit playing. So yeah, damn straight it can be a donkfest. |

Re: Question for the Foxwoods regulars
No, the kill is invoked on any pot >$100. There are two general styles of good tables in this game. One is a bunch of weak tight players you can just steal a ton of pots from. Tables like that are rarely kills. The best table I played in this game had a few LAGs and a whole bunch of calling stations. We played all kill pots for several straight hours. That game gave me my largest pot ever, $450, with my Qs full of 8s vs 8s full of Qs and an Ace high flush.

Re: Question for the Foxwoods regulars
The 5/10 kill is an "eastern" style kill, which means that the kill comes into play when a pot is over $100, not if you win 2 pots in a row.
Some folks think that the 5/10 is a better game than the 4/8. Their reasoning is that many newer players with a little $ want to play only in "red chip" games and like the gambooling aspect of the kill. I dunno, both games are pretty soft, unless you find the occasional 5/10 rock garden. |

Re: Question for the Foxwoods regulars
I've seen the 5/10 rock gardens before. They generally happen after the gamboolers go broke, and all the loose-weakies are left. But, as someone mentioned, there's some significant steal potential to keep you busy while you wait for the next maniac to be seated.

Re: Question for the Foxwoods regulars
I played the 5/10 Kill game once last year. My table was 40% maniacs, 20% TAGs and 40% calling stations. The game can be quite profitable but is prone to big swings. You can expect about 95% of the hands to be Kills. I won, but it was a bit unnerving losing to someone holding 74o, when he fills an inside straight, after cold calling 2 bets preflop.
I found the 10/20 game to be much more sane. The dealer at the 5/10 Kill game also mentioned that he thought the 10/20 was a much better game. I found (in a small sample) that the 10/20 game was no tougher than the 2/4 game. I don't know if this is typical. Bill |

I have played the 5/10 a number of times, and there is no way to predict how it will play. I have had tables where <25% of the hands were kills, and other tables where >75% were kills. The main thing to keep in mind is that the potential is there for big swings, although in general the majority of players will be mediocre or worse. In general, the 4/8 games are more predictably loose, and are usually more passive, although the rake is more oppressive at 4/8. |

Re: Question for the Foxwoods regulars
He asked for "opinions" on the 5/10 Kill game. I didn't realize that my opinions weren't valid. My apologies.
