Default How to Help Problem Gamblers

It is very rare for me to encounter someone who I think has a problem with gambling and plays poker, but perhaps that is because I mostly play online.

Today I ran into someone I had previously played headsup. She was basically begging me for $50. This made me feel terrible; I won about $500 from her a week or so ago, which I realized must have been a huge blow to her.

I kept trying differnt ways to reach her, but nothing worked. All she cared about was getting money from me to gamble with. I told her to set deposit limits, I told her to think about her kids and family, I told her she is terrible at poker and will lose in the long run (yeah, that didn't have a good effect), I told her to read the Bible, I told her to go to some GA meetings, I told her to stop. Nothing worked.

What is the best thing to do in this situation?

(edited for typos)

dirty pool. If you feel THAT strongly about it, email the poker site support and say that you believe player xxx to be a destructive gambling addict.

It's basically up to her though, in the end.

Clearly the answer is to give her a chance to win her money back. At double the stakes. Then she can win twice as much!

Learn that you aren't responsible for them.

Well, for starters, don't give her any money.

Secondly, you tried to tell her she has a problem in your opinion. If you only know someone via a gambling site, that's all you can do interpersonally.

Third, you might try an e-mail to the site itself. They have records of her wins/losses, and depending on the site's policies, they may choose to forbid her to play. Heck...they might suspend/ban her if you tell them she is contacting players and harassing them for money. This step won't solve her problem, of course. When one bar stops serving drunks, there's another down the street.

Usually the site will ban you if you want to ban yourself. I remember one problem gambler who played at Pokerroom she self banned herself. She lost about 200US a day playing 1/2??? Everday for months. I didn't see her for a while she said she set a small monthly limit and when it maxed out she was banned. Funny she was rich by 1/2 standards but 6K net a month is alot of dough no matter what you pull in........

To be honest she made the games very soft. Basically the winning players got 4 to 6 extra every pot that wouldn't have been there if she wasn't around.......
