Default I played it like AK....can I represent AK?

Here's a hand from tonight's session that I had a couple questions about:

Party Poker 15/30 Hold'em (10 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is SB with A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
1 fold, UTG+1 calls, 1 fold, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, MP3 calls, CO calls, 1 fold, Hero raises, 1 fold, UTG+1 calls, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, MP3 calls, CO calls.

Flop: (13 SB) 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (6 players)
Hero bets, UTG+1 folds, MP1 calls, MP2 folds, MP3 calls, CO calls.

Turn: (8.50 BB) 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (4 players)
Hero checks, MP1 bets, MP3 folds, CO calls, Hero calls.

River: (11.50 BB) K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players)
Hero bets

1. I vary between raising AQo here and just calling with it. Do you raise every time?

2. On the river, I feel like I've played my hand like AK, so I decided to bet out to represent it. Thoughts?

I think I should have folded the turn, FWIW.

In a pot that has 11.5 BB's in it going to the river, you're not bluffing anybody with a pair out getting 12.5:1. Save your chips and check/fold.

Preflop, I like raising the AQ most of the time, but here I sometimes complete just for the "hidden value"...coin flip.

I don't like raising offsuit aces less than AK from the blinds against that many callers. Against 1 or maybe 2 limpers I'll raise most of the time. If they were suited - I'm raising 100% of the time.

Do you always bet flops with A-high and no strong draws into 5 opponents?

The turn is probably close but I could see folding. I'd rather have KQ than AQ.

It's really hard to say how often the river bet works with no reads. I guess it doesn't have to work that often to show profit but I wouldn't expect it to work that often at all.

Believe it or not, I think the bet on the river will show a profit for you.

There's something about the psychology of this game, wherein you tend to be given more credibility if you look like you're being reasonable and are willing to give up, as you have done here.

There's also some chance that you actually have the best hand, in which case you'll win unless somebody feels like blowing you off of something.

In 15, I think that might have some validity. I don't think this play shows a profit in 5/10 and lower though.

I don't like preflop with that many opponents out of position. I don't like leading the flop with absolutely nothing into a whole field of players when you have no chance of winning. You wised up on the turn. The river is an ok bluff in this huge pot (getting good odds), but a 9 will almost always call here. But it only has to work once in awhile...

I think Nate hit the nail on the head. I'm finding that the 15 is a fairly different game - if you're not a total donk and you're not in a pot with total donks, then the line you take is given some real thought by your opponents.

In this case, it appears as if I am holding AK (it would only be clearer if I had been raised on the flop and just called, then check-called the turn), so I thought it might be a reasonable spot to bet out. So I did:

MP1: damn river
MP1 folds, MP3 folds

As far as betting out on the flop, I think it is ok here, as my range of holdings is still fairly large. If I can get somebody holding Ax that has just paired his low x to fold here, then I am golden. Finally, I felt reasonably good that UTG+1 and at least one of MP2/3/CO would fold, as they had been limp/folding often (but this is table-specific).

I would play the flop the same at 3/6, but likely check/fold the river (if not the turn).
