I had a friend pick up an assortment of chips from various casino's while in Vegas last week.
She brought back quite a few $1 chips from different casinos that were different colors. I don't care about denoms so if I were going to consider buying Pualson JB's or something (at $1.25+ each), I'd just get $1 chips of various colors from different casinos. At $1 each, their cheaper than the home Paulsons, (many are Paulsons), and they have more character. Anybody ever done this? |

That's a pretty cool idea, I thought about that when I was in AC last weekend, I was just wondering how many different color $1 chips I could find,as all I've seen are white or blue, Plus I'd like them to be somewhat similar, i.e. all clay or all ceramic. Hopefully someone'll chime in with some casinos that use different color $1 because for casino quality chips, a buck apiece with no shipping is def worth it.
Take care, Matt |

Oh, yeah. Lots of people have done this.
For $1 chips it works real well, but for higher denoms it gets a little bit too pricey! But if you don't care about the denoms, that's a great solution. For most people, that's where it doesn't work. You can get enough different colors and styles of $1 Paulson chips that they would not be confused on the table. So you could get a nice set of fabulous quality for $1 apiece. (Plus travel, and whatever you lose at the tables... Or if you win, then the chips are free. Talk about "money for nothing and chi(ck)ps for free"!) |

Even sticking with Paulsons, I think there is enough variety out there with colors and molds that you could pick up at least 4 diferent chips. Add in Chipcos and Bud Jones, and you could have quite a selection of very different-looking chips.
Here are some Paulsons just from Vegas that you could try on for size: http://www.silver-state-treasures.co...s/bellagio.htm http://www.silver-state-treasures.co...gs/harrahs.htm http://www.silver-state-treasures.co...s/mandalay.htm http://www.silver-state-treasures.co...egs/mirage.htm (2nd chip) http://www.silver-state-treasures.co...s/montcrlo.htm http://www.silver-state-treasures.com/lasvegs/paris.htm http://www.silver-state-treasures.co...s/tresisle.htm (4th chip) http://www.silver-state-treasures.co...s/venetian.htm Actually there are LOTS of $1 choices in the Mississippi casinos, both Gulf Coast and Tunica, so if you want any just let me know. Plus Atlantic City, Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun, etc. |

the second mirage chip you just listed would be hard to find a rack of. that's the old style before they came out with the new paulsons. you can usually find a couple of the old ones in a rack, but it would be tough to get 100, even 50.

[ QUOTE ]
does anyone know the best looking $1.00 and 0.25 chips are in vegas? what casino has the nicest looking $1 chip? [/ QUOTE ] "Best looking" is very subjective. What I like may be completely different from what either of you might like. That's why I put the links to a bunch of possibilities above. The thing to do is look around and decide what is best for you. The best resource is http://www.chipguide.com/ for all states, and especially http://www.silver-state-treasures.com/ for Nevada casinos. (These are maintained free by Greg Susong and Paul Hegge, respectively, for the benefit of all of us.) Do you like clay or ceramic or Bud Jones? Do you like white or blue? Do you like classic inlays or colorful/photographic inlays? Small or large inlays? Do you want edge spots or plain edges? Do you want Las Vegas or somewhere else? Indian casinos? Any favorite name, or any casino that has special memories for you (at least as far as you can remember!)? Figure out a few of these things and you'll decide what is "best" for you. If you want some suggestions, let us know some of your parameters and lots of folks around here will give you their favorites. |
