i think i have shin splints. the front inner part of my shins hurt when i run. has anyone ever had this? how did u alleviate it?

Yes. They hurt like hell. Mine eventually went away. Make sure you have good shoes, and the right kind of shoes for your stride/feet.

they def hurt alot. i couldnt even finish my last 2 jogs.

Rest is the only cure, you can wrap your loser legs to help. But that will not cure it. You usually get this by running on hard surfaces, so when you get back in the action try running on something softer.

Rest may be the only "make it go away now" cure, but I think toughing it out and running more is a better solution. IIRC, once the proper muscles are in shape the shin splints go away. If he rests them off, next time he tries to run a lot he'll get them again.

The Duck walk is a good strech. Also plenty of rest and ice is key. Also if your running the roads and there is any long downhill parts take it easy going down. That could put a lot of extra stress on your shins.

I also heard that a lack of potassium can help cause shin splints. This was from a very seriour runner friend of mine. Maybe eat a banana? [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

thanks for the replies guys.
im gonna look into getting some new shoes. that may be it as i have never had this despite 10 years of running. also, gonna try some heal inserts. will do the duckwalk too (whatever that is). |
