best places to play poker in the western US?
In a few weeks (end of April), I am going to be taking a roadtrip from Vancouver, Canada down to LA and Las Vegas and all points inbetween (plus probably Utah) and I plan on playing quite a bit of poker along the way.
I basically wanted to find out all the possible places I could play. I really prefer playing NLHE as opposed to LHE, so points of interest with NLHE are what I am looking for (if there is a nice place with only limit, i might make a stop). Also, I am looking for games in the $100-$1000 buy-in range (or unlimited buy-in if the buy-ins tend to be in a similar range, such as the Golden Nugget's $1-2 game). So how about it? Any suggestions on places to play in Cali, Oregon, Wash., Nevada, etc.? I have already been to Vegas twice so you can exclude casinos there, and I am also familar with some of the LA casinos with NL games such as Bike, Commerce, and Hustler (however, I haven't actually played at these 3 casinos, so any suggestions/advice/experiences about them would be great too). Feel free to mention anywhere else. thanks in advance for responses |

Re: best places to play poker in the western US?
The Seattle thread is here: seattle card rooms
On your way down from Seattle to Portland is Longview/Kelso area... there are card rooms there, sorry, I don't have that list handy. I thought I'd bookmarked something, but apparently not. And as far as Oregon... The Wildhorse is in eastern Oregon. I think it's got the limits you're looking for. From the Wildhorse FAQ: "How many live action games do you usually get? We can accommodate up to 34 live tables. Realistically, we will average about 20-24 live games each day. They have limits of $4-$8 (that’s our minimum) and all the way up to $30-$60. Also Omaha at $4-8 and $10-$20; plus, we will spread pot limit and no limit with buy-ins of $200 and $500. Generally we will have at least four hold ‘ems at $4-$8, a $6-$12, an $8-$16, two $10-$20, a $15-$30 and a $20-$40, plus two Omaha : $4-$8 and $10-$20, plus pot-limit games, and whatever else the players sign up for." Re: best places to play poker in the western US?
If you are heading into Utah from Nevada on I-80 (or vice-versa) you will pass through Wendover on the border. The Rainbow Casino has a decent room which usually spreads 300 max buy-in NLHE on most Fridays and Saturdays (its dependent upon having enough players to play but on these two nights usually gets up). This is a non-smoking room. The Montego Bay has a new expanded room which allows smoking, but I'm not sure what they spread because I don't play there for this reason.
