Sigfried and Roy Confused on the river
okerRoom 5/10 Hold'em (5 handed) converter
Preflop: Jayrutz is SB with Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] villain calls, MP calls, Button calls, jayrutz raises, BB calls, villain calls, MP calls, Button calls. Flop: (9.60 SB) A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (5 players) jayrutz bets, BB calls, villain calls, MP calls, Button calls. Turn: (7.30 BB) 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (5 players) jayrutz checks, BB checks, villain checks, MP checks, Button checks. River: (7.30 BB) 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (5 players) jayrutz bets, BB folds, villain raises, MP folds, Button folds, jayrutz calls. Final Pot: 11.30 BB I can't imagine that the 2 spades helps villain here, unless he has A2, but even there, turn check is really confusing with 5 players in...HELP!!!! |

Re: Sigfried and Roy Confused on the river
Would you bet with A2 on the turn here with a flop bet and 4 callers b/c I would check too w/ 2 players still behind me. Is that wrong? Could be 22 with a loose flop call or A8-A9?

Re: Sigfried and Roy Confused on the river
Well, I guess I might, given that it will help define the other 2 players hands, and I would fold to a C/R. But A/8 or A/9 for sure I bet turn...but maybe I am too aggro
But given that, would you lead out the river as I did? Would you call the raise to go to the showdown? |

Re: Sigfried and Roy Confused on the river
Maybe your river raiser had a good read on you: he noticed you checked the turn and bet the river blank card when everybody checked the turn. He could see this play as your attempt to steal a pot with nothing. A raise in this situation with any ace seems profitable to me.

Re: Sigfried and Roy Confused on the river
odd... I tried to come up with something that seems logical but I really can't make it fit.
here are some ideas... 1) he has a weak ace and wants to avoid a check-raise 2) he had a pair on the flop AND picked up a draw on the turn (he has a 5 or 2-hearts) and wants to see if he makes it. I don't know why he would raise here on the end under either scenario... possibly using the old 'raise and fold to a 3-bet' if he has an ace? maybe it is as simple as "he mis-clicked" |

good point...would you play this any different? [/ QUOTE ] Yeah; I'd play it worse. In this situation, I'd spew chips on the turn, too. I'm not saying it's the right play, because it's not (heck, you're facing four foes; one of them HAS to have an ace). I'm just saying that's what I do, because I'm a tool. Of course, if villain wakes up and raises on the turn (which he might, given the new inside straight draw added onto his top pair), you can then exit gracefully and save cash from the river. If he just calls, and everybody else does, too, then I might just lead out on that blank river card in the hopes that my QQ actually stands up. The raise gives me heartburn, and I make a crying call, and I lose one more BB than you did. Bleh. Like I said: it's not a better play or even a good play, but it's just the play I'd make. |

Re: Sigfried and Roy Confused on the river
I don't think 22 calls a pre-flop raiser with this flop; not without being a REALLY bad player.
