Are Sklansky DVD:s worth buying?
Found these two at Gambler's Book Club. Does anyone have an opinion on them?
SKLANSKY THE VIDEO-VHS by Sklansky, David Order 821125...$29.95 This DVD was filmed in part during Binion's World Series of Poker in Las Vegas in 1994. It is very much like taking a private lesson session from David Sklansky. Explains concepts, moves and sometimes 'secrets' only the pros have known and have applied to their games during the last 10 years or so. Sklansky focuses on three games; Hold'em, Seven Card Stud and Omaha Hi-Lo Split. He covers many general concepts which apply to most games, then concentrates on each game in particular. Sklansky teaches you how to 'avoid going on tilt' (losing emotional control during a game); the importance of betting according to the size of the pot; how to play mediocre hands well; what the proper time to check, call or raise; reading your opponents; the value of position; adjusting your strategy based on the number of opponents you face and the danger of "drawing dead." 870 minutes.1994. (is it really 870 minutes?) - SKLANSKY THE SEMINAR-VHS by Sklansky, David Order 821225...$29.95 This is a 'companion' volume to the Sklansky: The Video. It was filmed at the same time. But the difference is that a player might be at a disadvantage not seeing Sklasky: The Video, and buying this tape by itself, for the material needs continuity. This one is in more of a question-answer format, and although it doesn't have the organized structure of The Video, it will fill in an enormous amount of information for players struggling to improve their game. He again covers hold 'em, seven-card stud and Omaha hi-lo split, and many general poker situations. Serious players who want to earn a living at the game should purchase Sklansky : The Seminar and Sklansky: The Video as a set. 67 minutes. |

Re: Are Sklansky DVD:s worth buying?
To be a bit more specific.. I mostly play Limit Hold'em, occasionally NLHE and Limit Omaha Hi. Sooner or later, I will probably take up 7stud, PLO and O/8 as well.
I own about 20 poker books of which TOP, SSH, HPAP, TPAP, Poker Gaming and Life and Getting the Best of It are written (or co-written) by Sklansky. For Omaha and NLHE I have HOH, plus Ciaffones books on Omaha Hi and PL and NL Poker (with Reubens). I have nothing on O/8 or 7stud. I have no Poker DVD:s. Will Sklansky's DVD:s help improve my game, or is it a waste of money, considering that I have all of his relevant (for now) books? I would be thankful if anyone could answer that, or just share his/her opinion on the Sklansky DVD:s. Thank you. |

I have Sklansky the DVD. Get it. Its essentially a TOP wrapup, but just hearing David speak helps you understand the man better. I enjoyed it.
