The Congress is passing the bill now, and the president will probably sign it early this morning.
Then Terri will be driven back to the hospital and her feeding tube will be re-inserted. She has been without food for more than 2 days now. |

I feel much better now that Congress has shown that they know more about what a woman wants than her husband.

I have not read the bill yet, but if it only applies to Schiavo, then it is likely overstepping Congress' power to regulate interstate commerce.

Some might call it "congressional activism"
Of course, it's not at all activism when Republicans do something that Republcians want done. Ever. |

Some might call it "congressional activism" [/ QUOTE ] As in, 'actively avoiding the issues they are supposed to be dealing with like the war and social security' or 'actively pandering to their religious voters who respond to these hot button issues' or 'actively addressing an issue that gets a lot of media attention (see steriods in baseball)'. |

[/ QUOTE ] I always laugh when I read statements like this. Every day it's in session, Congress wastes its time with pointless garbage that makes Schiavo look like D-Day. Do a search on some of the speeches these guys make when they want to announce National Lemon Meringue Pie Day or whatever. The concern that Congress is ignoring important issues while focusing on this stuff is silly. Don't worry, they have plenty of time on their hands, and will get back to bilking you out of your tax money in short order. |

I knew the first of the three items I listed was the weakest. They sure do waste a lot of time. That is no excuse.
I'll change it to 'actively try and grab power' or maybe 'actively try and subvert the constitution.' |

Some might call it "congressional activism" Of course, it's not at all activism when Republicans do something that Republcians want done. Ever. [/ QUOTE ] First point: Congress is the political branch, activism is OK, indeed good. Court activism is bad (they are not supposed to be political) Second Point: Bush won Florida in 2000 in part because the Clinton Administration did not value the freedom of Elian Gonzales. If keeping Terri alive helps JEB in 2008, then so be it. |
