I was looking at that one and I think it looks good for something like under $1000. Right?

I'm no computer guru or anything but that's better than what I'm running right now.

I think you will find that the first thing that will make this laptop not so useable in a few years is the lack of memory.

Loading up memory when you buy the laptop is much much cheaper than trying to upgrade later.

my 2 cents.

upgrading laptop memory is the easiest possible computer upgrade that isn't external. 2 screws, remove a piece of plastic, slide it in a slot. if you think that buying unnecessary amounts up front because you'll have to "try" that 2 minute operation in the future, you have no business responding to any threads that relate to pc hardware.

buying more ram down the road is more expensive than upgrading from 512 to 1gig when you are buying it. however, most ram you would get in a prebuilt computer is garbage. if hes just going to be using it for watching dvds and playing poker 512 is probably fine, but 1 gig would keep it from getting obselete a little better.

SamJack is absolutely right. If you're using 2k or XP, 1GB is essentially mandatory.

I don't get it...
I used to 4-table Party on a P3 650 with 190 MB RAM and had no issues. Anyway, I'll get the 512 in 1 stick just in case.
