22 flops a set. Now what?
CO and UTG were both LP but I don't think it matters much.
Party Poker 2/4 Hold'em (7 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is SB with 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. CO posts a blind of $2. UTG calls, 2 folds, CO (poster) checks, Button calls, Hero completes, BB checks. Flop: (5 SB) 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (5 players) Hero checks, BB checks, UTG bets, CO calls, Button folds, Hero raises, BB calls, UTG calls, CO calls. Flopped a low set. Planned to check raise a late position bet to protect my hand, but UTG bet. As I have a set I felt I needed to raise. Not sure what else I could have done. Turn: (6.50 BB) J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (4 players) Hero bets, BB calls, UTG calls, CO raises, Hero 3-bets, BB folds, UTG calls $10.50 (All-In), CO calls, Hero calls. River: (18.37 BB) K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (3 players, 1 all-in) Hero bets, CO calls. Final Pot: 20.37 BB I'm happy enough with the rest of the hand, but wasn't sure whether to bet out, check raise or wait until the turn. |

Re: 22 flops a set. Now what?
i'd just lead out on the flop. it's pretty ragged and it's not guaranteed that someone is gonna bet. even so, the bet might come from LP and check/raising at that point is stupid when you hit the flop this hard.

Re: 22 flops a set. Now what?
I would just lead the flop, which actually shows less strength than a checkraise. Plus, I'd rather not have the flop get checked through, especially since some of your opponents may be willing to call on the flop but not the turn.
With regard to the idea of checkraising a late-position bet: I don't think hand protection should be your first concern with this board, in this smallish pot. Sure, straight draws are possible, but you have a pretty good draw yourself in addition to most likely having the best hand. What I'd want to do on the flop is build the pot. |

Led out the flop, rest of the hand was fine

Re: 22 flops a set. Now what?
a set in a 5 sb pot with a pretty uncoordinated board isn't a hand you need to protect. don't just throw out things like "I need to protect my hand." you have to understand what they mean and why

Lead the flop and just keep betting.

Bet the flop. Build a pot rather than trying to protect your hand.

Fair enough. Looks like bet the flop/doesn't need protection all round.
Hero has 2h 2s (full house, twos full of jacks). UTG has Kd Jc (full house, jacks full of kings). CO has Js 7s (three of a kind, jacks). Outcome: UTG wins 18.37 BB. Hero wins 2 BB. Thanks for your replies. |
