Tipping

Surprisingly, I didn't see a thread with "Tipping" in the title, so I started this one.

My initial take is that I would tip $1 for a pot at least $20-25 (my baseline is 2/4 games). I probably would keep it a buck unless it got over $50-60. How does this seem to what most people do?

Has anyone calculated on average how many BBs per hour they lose by tipping on a similar tipping plan?

I'll tip a $1 for pots over $20 and never tip $2. I play $2-$4 and $3-$6. I'm a little bit stingy but I don't go to the casino to spew. Because I play tight, I might win one pot an hour. I keep my burn rate low enough that that's sufficient.

I play low stakes like you and I usually tip $1 on pots in the $20 neighborhood, pots in the 50$ neighborhood gets maybe $2 and the monster pots of like $100 gets $3.

When I go on a rush and win like four monster pots in a row I might toss the dealer a $5 chip. Mind you, to me the B&M experience is still relatively new and fun, so the bottomline doesn't matter as much.

I can definitely see the point of the guy who will tip $1/2 no matter what the pot size and maybe some day I'll be in the same spot.

imo, i think that is way too much if you are wanting to play in the long run.

I pretty much agree, and that's why I pointed out that this is my current practice given that I play casually once in a while. If I start playing more regularly I'm pretty sure I'll cut it down to 1/2 bucks per pot tops.

I tip based on how good my dealer is (assuming tips aren't pooled). Better dealers get better tips.

I'm the same way. I will tip as I'm dragging a decent pot but I usually don't tip for the small ones. And if the dealer is good I will tip extra ($2-$3 sometimes, depending on how many drinks I've had [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img] )

I'm based in the UK where tippnig is actually frowned upon.. I've seen people kicked out of cardrooms for tipping

so are you saying they pay the dealers like a living wage or something? How does this affect the rake?

I know this may be a nit question, but do any of you not tip dealers who don't say thank you?
