Default Poll: predictions on online poker viability

Here's the scenario: a kid with mediocre grades and lukewarm interest in school has taken a liking to poker, namely online poker. He's built up a reasonable bankroll, is playing the $10-20 short-handed games, 4 tables at once, with a 25% rakeback deal, and various live/casino games...but mainly he's an online player. He has a short while left before he graduates, but is currently struggling in school because of the time he spends playing poker...yet the hourly he's been making seems to justify his interest in this regard (he's not a promising young professional banker, but a liberal arts major). His idea is to drop out now, take advantage of the boom, make enough money to pay back his loans and to fund further education if needed, and to have enough extra money to live like a dandy (or at least in relative comfrot) for a few years while he figures life out, and with a nice little nest-egg when it's all over.

Sounds like you are just looking for an excuse to drop out of school. If you want to quit, then quit. The world needs ditch diggers too.

yeah, finish the schooling. Once you graduate, then you can decide to play poker for an income. If it works out, great! If not, you can always fall back on your education and degree (even though it is in liberal arts.)

I vote for this option:

[x] Get your degree first, then play poker if you want

Poker will still be alive and kicking long after you are dead. There will always be a good game somewhere.

Youth happens once and doesn't last long enough.. don't waste it on poker.

Drop out of school and play poker. If that fails, practice this line:

"Would you like fries with that?"
