I want to live and play poker in California.
I prefer to live in a non-Urban area with reasonable traffic and cost of living. I prefer to have good loose profitable games (at least 10/20) nearby, and a selection of nearby rooms to choose from. What location best fits those two preferences? |

Off the top of my head, you could look at Long Beach and Torrance for the LA area casinos. Rents have skyrocketed both here and in SF over the last 8 years, so you'll have to define "reasonable" cost of living better.

I'd definitely say Southern California is better. Torrance is a decent neighborhood with Hollywood Park about 30 mins. away and other places maybe 40-45 minutes. There is always traffic in LA, not sure where you're coming from. Rent is not gonna be cheap either. Don't live in a awful neighborhood to save a hundred or two off of the rent.

You might want to think about Riverside / San Bernardino counties and play the indian casinos. Not as big as the LA cardrooms but the cost of living is lower and the traffic isn't as bad (not that I would call it good).
Pechanga in Temecula now has a 54 table room. Lake Elsinor has 20 - 30 tables but doesn't spread very big limits most the time. Mike |

The 15/215 have gotten out of hand. Your best bet is to live in Long Beach, near the Campus. My place last year was 1260 a month for a two storty 2bd/2ba apartment. It was gated as most complexes are down there. Close to the freeway, within 10 mins of the Hawaiian gardens over 100 tables and about 30 mins from the Commerce which is the biggest card room in the world. |

Riverside is hardly even allowed to be considered California. And the smog is horrendous. Nothing to do out there.

Pechanga isn't much of a drive at all from Riverside County since it is located in Riverside County. The Temecula area isn't bad at all. But hell Oceanside might be even better, but I'm biased as I've lived in Oceanside for better than 20 years. Mike |

You clearly missed that I said counties. [/ QUOTE ] I did. Still Riverside county has the worst smog in the country. The city of Riverside is totally ghetto. I agree that Temecula is a nice place to live. But if the OP is a single guy under 40 he doesn't have much else to do but go to Pechanga. That whole stretch of Lake Elsinore, Murrieta and Temecula is a total borefest with mostly retirees and families. Definately cost effective, but limited to two options to play poker. |

You think Riverside is ghetto, and Long Beach is a better choice?!?!
LMFAO!!! Have you even MADE the drive to Pechanga from Riverside?? The 215 between Riverside and Temecula is the most wide-open stretch of freeway there is (second only to the 10 out towards the desert). |
