First off, I raise PF with 99, even if I'm UTG (unless uber-tight table, but that's never the case at PP 2/4) Check/raise the flop to trap the field, then lead the turn. I hate slowplaying sets against a largish field. The pot is big enough of the flop. You'll trap people to the river with just about anything if you check/raise. There are too many scare cards on the turn that can make you hesistant to get into a raising war. I have no idea what MP3 has. He may have overplayed AQ, or he may have a set of queens. I hope you took it down.

How could have saved bets? [/ QUOTE ] You should have lost more for two reason. 1) You should have put in more bets on the flop, and 2) Your gine opponent should have raised the river w/ his QQ. |

I am guessing his opponent rivered his boat with pocket aces.

This is a horrible way to think in this instance. I would guess 8-9 times out of 10 you are ahead the entire way. You should have lost more, not less. When you are getting action like this, nine times out of 10, it's some schmuck with q-6 that has the wrong full house, or 9-6, etc. If you lose to a higher set, that is the breaks and you move on. I probably never take my foot off the accelerator here. If you go around worrying about monsters under the covers, you won't win enough with your powerhouse hands.

You have an easy raise for value preflop. On the flop, checkraise. You'll be missing a lot of times where he'll 3-bet and you can check-raise him again on the turn by just check-calling. Also, if he has AK he might not bet the turn, and having a set and getting .5 BBs in on the flop and turn combined sucks balls.
If a Q comes on the river you can check-call, but other than that I'm betting out. |

A Q double pairs the board, meaning a bare Q in the hole beats hero's hand.
