Default Roy Cooke -- More Money In No-Limit

Roy Cooke's new Card Player column argues that, because of the poker boom, there's now more money to be made in no-limit cash games and tournaments than in limit games. He writes: "If I were starting out now and looking to play poker for a living, I would focus on no-limit hold’em, both cash games and tourneys. The ability to gain an edge from the inexperienced players currently flooding the poker world is much greater in no-limit than in limit."

I'm playing 10-20 and 20-40 limit games. I have never tried no-limit cash games, as I figured that they'd burn out pretty quicky and it seems like proper strategy would be very boring. Am I missing the boat?

Roy Cooke writes an article in CardPlayer. He also has a real estate sales license. He's like Sup Bro. If he says it, believe it!

Seriously, I agree with him. I play NL better than Limit. His premise (and I agree) is that there are as many or more fish going into NL as Limit, so it's open season.

But to take advantage of it, you need to play beter than average...

I agree that the money is in NL and it it what I've been playing exclusively for awhile now.

The games do not burnout faster than limit. Matter of fact turnover is lower.

I definitely agree that there is more money in NL. It can be made faster and good experienced players have a huge edge.

As for burnout, I do not it is as big a problem as it would seem. Among the big fish in the locations I play at, there is actually negative burnout. The players move up limits after a couple of months because they get bored and want to play with better players in a more fluid and serious game.

currently, there is a lot more room to move up in limit, even though at low levels, there is easier/faster money at nl.

Default Roy Cooke \"And the game is played from Lithuania to Costa Rica\",

Well, if you want to sample No Limit cash games and tournaments in a tropical climate, Costa Rica and Casino Europa certainly are a wonderful venue.

You don't need to write for Card Player or work for a poker site like Roy does to get a free poker vacation and brush up on NL skills. Truepoker gives away poker trips to Costa Rica every month for a monthly series of No Limit cash games and tournaments at Casino Europa, a Charter member of the World Poker Tour.

The baby NL games in Las Vegas are certainly loose, but pale in comparison to the looseness of games played in Costa Rica.

LOL i cant believe you are hyping what is quite possibly the worst poker room in the world. Games are good there but when/if a game is going is another story and then each hand takes 10 minutes and dealers have no clue and floorstaff are retarded.

Default Costa Rica No Limit games

Well, PapaSan, at least we agree that the games are good at Casino Europa.

I do not know how often you are able to tear yourself away from the Blue Marlin, but the Casino Europa poker room has been moved to a 9 table, new room, complete with a waterfall. (Looks pretty good and is smoke free.)

As for the quality of the dealers, I strongly disagree. They are certainly as good as dealers in US venues. They are VERY good at dealing split pot games, as Omaha 8 or better is a local favorite. (The gringos tend to support the No limit Holdem game(s), with about a 50/50 mix.)

During the last week of each month, when Europa runs a full tournament series, there have always been very good, boisterous loose NL games ... at least every time I have gone there. (That tournament week is what I am describing specifically, since Truepoker is giving away trips every month.)

Now, you may be spoiled by the, uh, "action" at the Blue Marlin venue you list as home, but the games at Europa are profitable for play, the players range from complete novices to WPT winners, and the poker experience is certainly entertaining.
