Default A poker room in NY: 6-12 Hold Em

Several LAG players. Most aren't bad, but for what it's worth, I've seen several players fold on the river for one bet. The villian in this case has just joined the table. Let's call him Action Man. Action Man suggests raising the stakes to 10-20, but no one bites. He's in the big blind and asks the dealer if he can straddle. He can, so he does. I'm UTG with A 10o. It's two small bets to me. I raise figuring A 10 to be better than whatever random junk the A man has. Two MP players call. Action still hasn't looked at his cards. He reraises. I call and so do the MPs.

The flop is J-J-8 no suits. Action Man checks, so do I, so do the MPs. The turn is a K. Action checks. I sense weakness, so I bet. The two MPs fold, Action calls. The river is a blank. Action checks. What, Dear Readers, do I do?

You bet the damn flop to protect your hand. You also check behind on the river.

Who's spreading 6/12 in the city, and what does Action Man look/sound like?

He looks 30, Asian, a big stack of chips. He likes attention.

At the risk of losing some credibility, I will admit that I may have posted some of the action of this hand wrong. (This was about a week ago.) Thinking back, I'm pretty sure that I did bet the flop, which is when the MP's folded. Then I bet the turn.

And if you must know, I bet the river, as well.

But I just couldn't shake the Action Man.

Well, once he calls the turn he's calling a river bet with any pair. That's why you should check it through.

The river bet has little value. He needs to call with like King high. That isn't happening enough.

Where the hell is there 6/12 in NY? Curious minds want to know, by pm if need be...

Yeah. I'll terminate the suspense right here. He called, saying 'All right, show me your king." He won with pocket 3s.

I should not have bet the river. There was no way this guy was going to fold an underpair (as it turns out,) so I only win when he calls with Q high, or an A and a card lower than my ten.

The place was called Wall Street Poker. They claim to have 4-8 Hold Em, which is what I was looking for (and you can see why from my river bet.) When I got there, it turns out the lowest stakes limit game they've got going is 6-12.

If you run a few search for poker rooms in New York, and do a little poking around, you can find several. Some of them advertise on the poker meetup boards. Usually you get an E mail address, first. Wall Street Poker (which is in Chinatown) is the only one I've been to, but I know there is one called Galaxy (which I think is in the West 30's) one called Playstation, one called Rounders, and one called New York Players Club. There is one on 63rd street too, but I don't remember the name. I'm told there are several in Brooklyn and Queens. Some of them are looking for new players and some aren't. Or so I'm told.

Good luck.
