Default Pal\'s AA- how did he do?

Witnessed this hand in the Mirage 20-40 game. Pal open raises 2UTG with black AA. Five callers, including the button, who is a Mirage regular. Bb calls so there are 7 to the flop of 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

BB bets out and Pal raises. Called by one touristo and then 3 bet by button. BB folds and Pal calls as well as touristo.

Turn is 6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

Pal bets out again, touristo now folds, and it's raised by button. Pal calls.

River is A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] and Pal bets out . Button calls.

How did Pal play it?

Thanks,

Babe [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

so there are 7 to the flop

Wow. is this normal in this game?

Pre-Flop I play the same, depending on how tough my opponents are. would a limp/re-raise sound alarms?

On the flop I play the same.
I love that turn card, and may 3 bet the turn.

With all the aggresion button has shown, I might try a c/r on the river. but this is debatable.

Just my opinion

7 players to the flop for 2 bets is not typical of the daytime M 20-40, although lately it's been a bit loose (LOL).

You might 3 bet the turn when the board pairs? Can you elaborate on why ?

thinking about this a little bit more, it's a tough decision. what range of hands does button 3 bet this flop with? (reading your post, I see top pair or better) I suppose with 5 in the pot before him pre-flop, he could cold call with a relatively wide range of hands.

but if I had to make a call, I'm guessing he would have 3 bet QQ before the flop, cold-called with 88 or 66, limped with a few other strong or suited queens or connecting diamonds (if he's tricky of course, maybe not). Of all these hands, the only one I'm really afraid of on the turn is 88 or Q6s. Hard to give him credit for quads, and the chances of him holding Q8s are better than Q6s. if he has Q8s, he just got counterfeited, but of course Q6s puts you in deep trouble.

I suppose my reasoning for raising the turn is that the 2nd 6 probably helps your Pal more than the button.

But that's just my sketchy reasoning...fell free to tear me apart!

Hi Ken,

Remember, this is a Mirage regular, and so he's more likely calling with 88 or 66 than with Q,8, A, q, or k,Q.

The key to this hand is the turn play by the button. We know that he is a Mirage regular. Mirage regulars "typically" do not raise the turn without a huge hand. This pretty much narrows it down to QQ or 88. My pal with AA plays this hand terribly, I think. He should 4 bet the flop and then 3 bet the turn to see just where Mirage regular stands.

Mirage regular had 88 for the turned full house.

The lucky suckout not withstanding, I think Pal played it badly on all streets.

I'll grant you the Q8, but I call Bullhockey on the AQ and KQ. "Solid" Mirage 20 regulars love to coldcall with those precise hands.

As for the hand, he should have gotten to the river, but no way should he have let the turn go for 2 bets. Check-call the turn (Mirage Regular will NEVER 3-bet a flush draw, so the turn is getting bet) and checkraise the river.

Hi Babe,

this is completely contradictatory. You very firmly put the other player on 88 or QQ, yet advocate a turn three-bet to "see just where Mirage regular stands." A turn re-raise here is simply chip burning. I hope you are not advocating a three-bet and fold to a four-bet...are you?

Hi PokerBabe,

This doesn't make much sense to me, this much jamming doesn't seem like inquiry bets - but value bets and I have a tough time seeing how Pal is ahead on the turn based on the button's description and aggression this hand.

It's seems you are now ahead of most hands of this guy. Q8 and top pair have only 2-outer now against you. And these are the most probable hands on this board for this regular which will be here around 75% of time giving description.

The question is if he able to raise turn with a bit busted 2pairs and hands like KQ. If he is - then it's 3 bet. If no - then it's call.
