Very loose and aggressive 30-60 game. I missed my blind so had to post in CO position. I get 8s5s. UTG raises 3 people call. I also call. 5 people see the flop. $345 in the pot
Flop - 7d4d3h. All check to MP. He bets. 2 more call. I think about it and fold. There is $435 in the pot and the only card I feel safe with is non diamond 6 giving me nuts. Moreover I am afraid UTG(pre flop raiser) is checking a very good hand(probably a set) and action is not going to stop at one bet. I have been playing with all 3 MPs for over 6 months and am sure this flop had to hit atleast one of them. Even though the pot odds and making my hands are very similar at 15:1. Anyone agrees with my line of thinking. UTG raises and all the other three call. $585 in the pot Turn - 6h. NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!. The board is 7d4d3h6h. I would have had the nuts. UTG bets. MP1 raises. MP2 calls. MP3 reraises. UTG calls. MP1 caps its and everyone calls. $1545 in the pot. River is Kh. Board is 7d4d3h6hKh. MP3 bets. UTG calls and MP1 calls. Total pot $1725. MP3 has 52off, UTG has 44. MP1 has A5off and MP2 says he folded Ace high diamond flush draw. I kept thinking about it all night(still thinking 2 weeks after it happened) and the only positive was that I didnt go on tilt at all. Any advice on flop play very appreciated. |

You would have won a $1700 pot so obviously you should have called.

definite fold, many redraws possibile, could be reraised behind you, barely getting odds.

Counterbalanced by implied odds in his favor. This was a definite call. -Michael |

Additionally, he probably should have raised, but he said he was certain that his opponents had something.

Awful fold on the flop. A very basic pot / implied odds mistake.
Good luck. Eric |

Getting 18-1 on the initial call to a 14.5-1 shot? Even if the guy raises behind you, cutting it to say, about, 23-2, 11.5-1, you still have a call.
[ QUOTE ] Moreover I am afraid UTG(pre flop raiser) is checking a very good hand(probably a set) and action is not going to stop at one bet. [/ QUOTE ] Yes, i always put an UTG raiser on a set when a board comes 7 high. Please. Hindsight thinking? If he does have a set, he'd likely do what most mopes do (regardless of any other info they take in at the table) and go for a raise on the turn. If he does raise, most will likely see monsters also and just call, giving you nice odds to see the turn. As someone mentioned, a study of pot/implied odds would help. A 30-60 game is an expensive way to learn about this. b |

He is getting 14.5-1 [ QUOTE ] UTG raises 3 [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] Oops. I read it too fast. The above line is what screwed me up. I read that line with '5 to the flop' and instantly thought 15 preflop. 5 players in for 2 bets preflop + 1 bet and 2 callers to him + 1 blind = 14. ( i tend to discount the sb for rake and ease for rounding down) If the guy behind raises with likely those guys calling, he can count on 3 more bets + the raisers 2 making it 19-2. 9.5-1. If he hits his card, he will likely easily make up his implied odds on the turn. Thanks again. b |
