2+2 Book Club: ITH Schedule and Sign-up
STARTS ..... PAGES COVERED ..... TOPIC
Oct. 14 ..... pg. 06 - 18 ....... Introduction Oct. 15 ..... pg. 19 - 52 ....... Poker Concepts I (Odds, Bluffing) Oct. 19 ..... pg. 53 - 72 ....... Poker Concepts II (Raising, Deceptive Tactics) Oct. 23 ..... pg. 73 - 108 ...... Starting Hands Oct. 27 ..... pg. 109 - 165 ..... The Flop I Nov. 01 ..... pg. 166 - 210 ..... The Flop II Nov. 05 ..... pg. 211 - 248 ..... The Turn and River Nov. 09 ..... pg. 249 - 293 ..... Conclusion Hopefully this will give us enough time to cover the material in each chapter before moving on to the next, but since it's just based in a thread for each section, discussion can continue on one topic while we start another. I hope this is a pace everyone can handle -- it's roughly 10 pages a day, and there's a few days before we get started. There's no real need for a sign-up other than just to see how many people plan on following and contributing to the discussion. |

Re: 2+2 Book Club: ITH Schedule and Sign-up
I'm interested. How does this work? Just start posting questions about the appropriate section starting the specified day? I'm guessing there will be an ITH Book Club thread setup for this.

I will follow, and I will try to contribute. Keep in mind that I'm a novice, so my contributions will likely be questions rather than answers.

[/ QUOTE ] There is lots of white space on each page, big print...10 pgs a day should be no problem. Besides, many people already have read the book...just need to re-familiarize themselves. ---Leavenfish |

Re: 2+2 Book Club: ITH Schedule and Sign-up
I will participate. I am a complete newbie.. and after reviewing one of the previous threads in this forum, I decided to start with ITH.. and I just got it from Amazon.com earlier this week, so I am ready to go.

Re: 2+2 Book Club: ITH Schedule and Sign-up
Two pieces of advice I should give you are:
1. 10 pages per day doesnt sound like much now, but it can end up being a lot to some people once it gets going, so be flexible with the schedule and be willing to slow it down if need be. 2. For each Section have something to start the discussions off with. When I did this at the beginning of TOP the discussions went great, but when I left the discussion starters up to others because I felt like maybe I was dominating the conversation, it didn't drive conversation as much. |

[/ QUOTE ] 2nd that. I read ITH as my 1st 'serious' poker book, and it was tough going in spots. I think it's a deceptively dense book, and is not strictly for beginners. One more suggestion: Have a separate thread for each of the sub-sections that have a 'Test Your Skills' quiz. That will keep the threads more coherent, and more useful for archival reference. For example, if later on I'm having trouble with top pair flops, it would be nice to re-read a thread dedicated to the 'Top Pair/Over Pair' chapter that isn't mixed up with discussion of other flop types. Anyhow, ITH was my 1st choice for the Book Club - looking forward to it! Pasta |

Re: 2+2 Book Club: ITH Schedule and Sign-up
Nice project. I'll be interested to see if the regulars come on and have something of value to contribute, as ITH is a very good book that is under-discussed on these forums, and the differences between ITH, WLLH, and SSHE are something that can provide for a lot of interesting discussion, but on the ITH side haven't been beaten to death yet at all.
