Default Dealer Tipping @ foxwoods

So I tipped the dealer when I was at foxwoods every time I won a substantially raised pot, or if I was taking down a string of a few hands in a row, even if the pots weren't huge. Because this was basically the etiquette I saw at Atlantic city. (borgata 2/5 NL)

I very seldom saw other people tipping and one dealer told me no one ever tipped her. Is dealer tipping not as customary in Foxwoods as it is in AC? How much should I tip?

I almost never tip at Foxwoods and nobody ever says anything. They're just doing their job, they didn't help you win the hand. However, I will say that if a dealer is extremely friendly/funny/livens up the table a little I'll tip him. But never based on the cards he dealt me. To me, that's just admitting that you don't understand the game.

This attitude of players, along with the fact that Foxwoods pools tips, explains why the majority of dealers at Foxwoods are pretty lousy. Would you wait tables in a restaurant where nobody tipped you?

To suggest that tipping dealers is tantamount to admitting a fundamental misunderstanding of poker is absolutely absurd. You are simply trying to justify being a cheapskate.

Hello,

You are simply trying to justify being a cheapskate.

Do you really care if other players tip or not? Quite honestly if you are paying attention as to 1)IF a player tips at all 2)The amount they tip............. says to me that you aren't paying attention to your game..

I play at Foxwoods all the time.. and I can tell you exactly how much I have tipped.. in TOTAL.. in the last 6 months.. That total is $1.. Yup.. $1.. That was when a dealer actually pushed me close to a $1000 pot in a 10-20 Stud game..

Now if you want to call me a cheapskate too.. Fine.. I could give a crap.. Just remember that while you are tipping all your money away.. I am using that same money to pay for, shall we say some of the finer things in life..

The Dealers in Foxwoods, are the single worst dealers in the country.. and I have played most everywhere there is at some point in time. Why should I tip them? Give me one reason. The biggest reason they are the worst dealers IS BECAUSE of Foxwoods tipping system. When will management at the worlds largest casino ever freakin realize that if Dealers kept their OWN tips.. things would improve EXPONENTIALLY..

Why?

1) If the dealers kept their own tips... they might actually deal more than 7 hands every 1/2 hour
2) If the dealers kept their own tips... they might actually develop a personality and make the games more enjoyable..
3) If the dealers kept their own tips... they might actually learn how to do their freakin jobs.. In other words... Less F*CK UPS....
4) Most importantly.. and this refers back to number 1.. If the dealers dealt more hands.. THEY would make more money AND the Casino would too... So Kathy.. are you listening???????

Basically it boils down to this.. Give an employee an INCENTIVE to do their job better.. and they will.. Employer makes more money.. so does Employee...

You make mention in your post about waiters and waitressess working for tips.. Well tipping is for SERVICE.. and usually you tip for GOOD service... How often do you receive good service from a poker dealer at Foxwoods?

Not to mention that if you lose a pot.. the dealer is the first one to say "I just shuffle the cards and hand them out.. Not my fault"... Well they do the same damn thing when they deal a winning hand...

Now I have no problems tipping dealers.. Providing that 1) they keep their own tips 2) They are an excellent dealer.. when I was living out in AZ I used to tip the dealers at Casino AZ quite frequently.. ( By the way.. I still believe they have the best dealers in the country ) But until I see a major change in the Foxwoods system.. the dealers are just going to have to get paid by the tourists..

Yes. If dealers are providing a service and are not being reimbursed for their time and effort, then that bothers me. If a waitress gets stiffed by a table, then that bothers me.

And sure, there can be times that a waitress does a horrible job and doesn’t need a tip but if someone told me he always go to such-and-such restaurant and eat all the time, but never tips because the service is bad then that’s a problem for several reasons.

First, this is self-reported information that people are providing on the board. And second, I don’t know anyone who is so overwhelmed at the table that the person can’t focus on anything else but their game. Making a decision on a hand takes a few seconds. Analyzing the table takes a few more seconds. If you’re getting seven hands a half hour or whatever you said, that’s even more down time you have to do other things.

Of course you do, since you claimed that you've only tipped $1 out of all of the hands you played at Foxwoods. I can't believe that every hand from every dealer has been dealt in an unprofessional manner.

Why don't you save your breath and just acknowledge that you're a cheap, low-life, scumbag.

Let me explain myself better. Tipping dealers because you think they are somehow "better" dealers because they dealt you KK twice in one orbit and another dealer didn't deal you [censored] is stupid.

heres the thing about tipping dealers. Right now there is a shortage of dealers in many casinos especially good dealers. If you want to continue to wait 3 hours for a game at a place like foxwoods or borgota then continue to insult and degrate dealers till there arent enough to go around.

Dealers are treated like $hit and who wants to do a job that your treated that way for minimium wages.

Now to defend the players a little the dealers need to remember that you need to continue to learn and keep up to date with the poker world. I see many dealers getting into the box without really knowing the rules of the game. This is where management needs to step into and have some kind of retraining at least once a year.

the triangle doesnt connect without all three pieces working together.

Player
Dealer

You may want to revisit this concept. Sounds extremely cheap to me. I am not a dealer nor have I ever worked for tips as a job.
