It\'s For Hands Like This That We Play This Game
I was playing at my local Indian casino the other night, a few bucks ahead after coming back from about $70 down. Typical loose/passive game. Here, they play a $2 straight version of HE where the bets on all rounds are $2 with a 3-raise limit. There's also a nice jackpot for a royal flush, with the spade royal over $22K.
I'm on the button and get dealt J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. Now, I come into this game with the idea of playing any hands with 2 spade Broadway cards. MP1 raises to $4, MP3 calls, CO calls, I call, figuring maybe I'll get a lucky flop. SB completes, BB raises to $6, MP1 caps at $8 and everyone calls (with this huge pot I figured what's another $4). 6 players in pre-flop for $8 ($48 in the pot). The flop comes A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], K, T! I flop the nut straight with a backdoor draw to the spade royal. BB bets out, MP1 raises to $4, MP3 folds, CO calls, I only call here putting BB and MP1 on some combination of AA, KK or AK. I figure they'll do the betting and raising for me so why tip my hand this early. CO is extremely loose and could literally have anything. SB calls, BB raises to $6 and MP1 caps again at $8. Everyone calls. 5 players in with $88 in the pot. Turn is 5 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] now adding a 2nd-best flush draw to my hand. BB bets, MP1 raises to $4, CO finally folds, I call using the same reasoning as my $4 call on the flop. SB calls, BB raises to $6 but MP1 only calls. I call and SB calls. 4 players in with $112 in the pot. Only thing I'm worried about here is a paired board on the river. River is a harmless 2 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. BB bets, MP1 calls, I finally get into the action and raise to $4, SB folds!, BB calls (darn!) and MP1 calls. 3 to showdown with $124 in the pot. BB shows AA and MP1 shows AKo. There was lots of buzzing around the table after this one. Even for this place, this was a big pot. Did I miss any bets here (I guess the only time I could've missed anything was when I just called the Turn)? Would anyone have played it differently? Thanks. |
