55 on 578 board - when to slow down?
Party Poker 2/4 Hold'em (9 handed) converter
Preflop: Hero is CO with 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. 5 folds, Hero calls, Button calls, SB completes, BB checks, Flop: (4 SB) 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (4 players) SB bets, BB folds, Hero raises, Button calls, SB 3-bets, Hero caps, Button calls, SB calls. Though he bets out on the turn after my flop cap I feel I still have to raise what could easily be two pair. Once he 3-bets I get a little worried. You think I should have just called the turn? |

Re: 55 on 578 board - when to slow down?
I would have check-called after the turn 3-bet, but that's just me. Going another bet here isn't probably much different than calling at this point in the long run, although more astute opponents might squeeze 2 extra bets out of you by checkraising the river.

BTW, I think you should have raised preflop. I don't see what open-limping from the CO accomplishes.

Re: 55 on 578 board - when to slow down?
1. Raise preflop
2. Flop play is ok but I would not cap b/c I want him to lead into me on the turn so I can raise the bigger street. (Although, that line sucks here because you are behind but board pairs and you will win a big pot) 3. I slow down on the turn if I raise and he three bets. I always open raise any pocket pair form the CO, I know it is hard to play 55 post flop but I dont want 96o to see a cheap flop against my 22-88. |

"when to slow down?"
When you're dead or the river, which ever comes first. - Jim |
