Flush draw in the SB
Doing this one from memory, since it was on Pacific Poker $1/$2 - just sat down at the table, so no reads other than the table seemed to be your average passive Pacific table...
UTG+1, MP2, button limp, I complete in the SB with Q6d, BB checks. [5 SB] Flop: Jd 8s 4d Checked around to the button who bets. I call with my diamond draw, BB folds, UTG+1 calls, MP2 folds. Does anyone either bet out here or check raise? [4 BB] Turn: [Jd 8s 4d] Tc I now have a 1 card gutshot draw to go with my flush draw. I check as does UTG+1 and button bets again. I call as does UTG+1. [7 BB] River: [Jd 8s 4d Tc] 9h I've hit my straight and bet. I'm raised by UTG+1. Button folds and I call. Results to come later - I'm mostly interested in my flop play but welcome discussion of all streets. |

Re: Flush draw in the SB
Sorry, edited to include stakes and reads (or lack there of) - first real hand post for me.

Re: Flush draw in the SB
Warning: my take may be LAG-gy
Acting first with four players behind me, I'll bet the flop here. As I see it, if everyone is weak then betting gives me the chance to win without improving, and if one or two people have a piece then then the bet could well be +EV in and of itself. There are some hands that will call (9T, a smaller diamond draw) that you are ahead of here. Having checked, when it comes back to me I'm raising. Again, if I get one caller between me and the Button I'm OK, and if they all fold and the Button is weak (say, betting on overcards or middle pair) I could win without improving. My instinct is to c/r the turn, but given the preflop action I see it as a close call and highly dependent on whether you think the Button is likely to fold if he's been betting a mediocre holding. I play the river the same way. |

Re: Flush draw in the SB
Thanks for the advice.
UTG+1 turned over KQo for the higher straight and won. After the hand, I kept thinking that if I had raised the button and forced UTG+1 to face 2 cold, that he might have folded his two overcards, but I didn't know if I was being too results oriented in my thinking... |

Re: Flush draw in the SB
i'd lead the flop, but a c/r is good for the above reason, forcing UTG+1 to call 2 cold on the flop. You have equity with the flush draw.
Calling the river was good. Some may raise and would be wrong. Regards, Pete Harris |
