Default Tunica, I guess...

I just want a cheap poker vacation. Clean room/low price/good games. Doesn't everybody? I did a search and most dissed Biloxi/Gulfport which are closest to me, maybe six hours(I'm 2.5 hours SE of Atlanta). I thought I'd get in some beach time, but not interested in cesspools. So....Maybe Tunica? We play a wild (loose/aggressive)3-5 home game, which I've done quite well at after reading 20 or so good books. Stud and Hold'em, mostly Stud. Looking to play 5-10 or 10-20, Stud and Hold'em. I'll drop down if I have to. Looking to stay 4-5 days. Questions are: Is the Goldstrike a consensus good bet? And are their poker rooms $19 on weekends and weekdays? How many hours drive from Atlanta? All suggestions appreciated.

One option you may consider is http://www.pearlriverresort.com/ in Philadelphia, MS.
It is much closer than Tunica. Poker room has wild games, but limited selection.
3-6 Holdem, sometimes 6-12 or 10-20.
3-6 Omaha8, i think w/ a kill
10-20-30 Omaha Hi, Tuesdays and weekends.
1-5 stud.

Also have a resort area, artificial beach that I've heard is fantastic. (I 've never left the card room)

2 great golf courses.

Anyway, might consider it for future short trips.

Cheers,
JTrout.

1) The Goldstrike is good. Plenty of games.
2) I always get screwed on the poker room rate, so I don't know.
3) How long from Atlanta??? I guess you'll go through Birmingham, and that's about 2 hours? Probably another 4 from there. I've never gone that way.

How many hours drive from Atlanta?

about 7.
from Atl. to Tupelo (my hometown) app. 5, then 2 more.

Hwy 78 W to the Goodman Rd. exit.
Goodman Rd. to Hwy 61 S.
Hwy 61 S. to you see the signs.

Good Luck,
JTrout

Goodman Rd exit? Is this the one at Mt Olive, 302?

I've exited off Hyw 78 at Mt Olive and I've exited a few miles before that at Byhalia(?), which goes through Hernando, and becomes 304. Both are about the same mileage, all though going through the country on 304, you miss all the stop lights and traffic at Mt Olive.

If Goodman Rd is a different route that could be a quicker way to cut over to Tunica from Hyw 78, I'd like to check it out.

Goodman road is a zoo. Between US 78 and US 61, there are approximately 40 xillion traffic signals. Definitely take 304 through Hernando.

Going all the way up 78 into Memphis to I-240 to I-55 to US 61 would be faster than going across 302. Seriously.

Huh? You think if you're coming up 78 from Bama it's better to go all the way up to Olive Branch and take 302 across (then backtrack south) than to go 304 through Hernando? You've got to be kidding.

Actually, when I lived in Tuscaloosa (1999-ish), I would take 78 to Tupelo, then cut across to Batesville, then take I-55 up to Hernando. 302 has gotten considerably worse since then (my dad lives in Olive Branch).

I've lived in Southaven and Olive Branch nearly all my life and I agree Goodman Road is a zoo nowadays.

Coming from Birmingham, it would seem that Hwy 6 (from Hwy 78 near Tupelo) to Oxford, MS (I've never been on that part of Hwy 6 between Tupelo and Oxford) would be better. From Oxford, Hwy 6 is a divided 4 lane highway over to I-55 at Batesville, then up to Hwy 304 in Hernando directly to Tunica (Robinsonville, MS actually; the town of Tunica is south of the casinos) would be a better route than to go all the up to the Memphis/Southaven/Olive Branch area then back down to Tunica.
