Default What ever happened to 5 Card Draw??

What happened to it's appeal? I mean, I guess people still play it in their home games but the overall popularity of the game has fallen off. You don't see it in card rooms and there isn't an event for it during the WSOP! What gives do you think?

The luck to skill ratio was too big. The fish got busted too quickly. It is very difficult to suck out in Draw. There are double blind six-handed draw games on www.paradisepoker.com if you really want to play.

I'm an abc player and almost all my losses come from suckouts. I routinely get beat by 5:1 and 10:1 dogs. I would like to play a game where skill wins. I am just about to give up holdem for good.

I wonder how many "winning players" and "pro's" are just plain lucky gamblers, I bet its a high number. I have seen people win for years in the stock market by pure dumb luck, why not holdem.

In the 1930s in the UK academics tested the proposition that pure luck would return greater dividends than a portfolio chosen by experts. The pure luck portfolio was chosen by throwing darts, blindfolded, at pages of the Financial Times. The pure luck portfolio outperformed the portfolio chosen by experts over 12 months.

Historically, the stock market has generally gone up (its performance since I invested a small amount in early 2000 is another matter). Casino poker, on the other hand, is a negative sum game. A much, much larger percentage of stock market investors make money than do poker players. Good luck, though.

[/ QUOTE ]"Luck Is Gods Way Of Blessing You!"

My opinion is, "Luck" is a big factor in winning. The one pro that comes to mind is Gus Hansen. Majority of the hands he plays are crappy. But a lot of times he plays those hands on intuition, instinct, knee jerk reaction, physic, feeling. You get the picture, and he wins most of the hands. It boils down to good luck, dumb luck, lottsa luck, or whatever fricking "Luck" you and I want to call it.

I try to play a tight game but sometimes I have to press my luck with clowns that call me, or go all in with some of the shittiest hands in poker. Do I win all the time, no, but I do most of the time. I guess this is when the "Skill" kicks in to get a read on your opponents. But, again, Luck steps in. It sure feels good when I do call their bluff and win because they have shitty hands.

In contrast with holdem, it's too slow, there's too little action, and bad players have no chance even in the short-run.

Cardrooms also don't like it - it's a slow game with mostly tiny pots, which means a much lower rake than in holdem, Omaha-8, or stud.

About five years ago, there were a few draw games scattered around Atlantic City, but because of the WPT holdem has surged in popularity and new players want to play that rather than draw.

I assume the WSOP would have it if there was demand for it - they still have events for lowball and razz, which are also almost nonexistent in cardrooms today.

I've heard people at Foxwoods say its because you can play video poker to get your draw jones. Its not beatable long term in this format and lacks any of the skill of live play, but I guess it gives the poker room an excuse not to spread it. Ultimate Bet spreads triple draw lowball (both A-5 and 2-7) but no draw for high.
