Today at a B&M game I sat next to a guy who showed me his cards during the play of the hand nearly every time I had folded ahead of him. Big pair? He shows them to me. Flush draw? Show it. Bust hand? Ditto. It got to be very annoying.
This is not the first time that this has happened. Why do some players feel the need to do this? Do they think that they are showing off their poker prowess or intelligence (this guy tonight had neither)? Do they think that I care when they miss draws? Or do they just get some kind of satisfaction out of showing off a big hand (or relief from misery from showing off a bust hand)? And most importantly, do they simply not realize that astute players may be able to read the hand via my reaction to it? |

If I were you, I would keep track of their betting patterns for each type of hand he has. MAke him pay for being a stupid-a$$

My experience with this behavior convinces me that these people play poker for mostly social reasons. As these are not usually the best players, my suggestion is to be nice (“Ah, too bad you missed.”) and learn how they play.

A lot of poker players play the way they do, (and let you know it by showing cards, talking, etc) because they want your approval as a poker player that you like and respect their play. They aren't so much showing off, just trying to get a pat on the back.
I figure players who do this regularly don't realize they're giving off information, or most likely just don't care, because they are playing for fun and a sense of community. Not everybody plays cut-throat poker. |

I don't understand why you find this so annoying. I would find it amusing and profitable. Most players who are good enough to read your tells wouldn't need the extra information much anyway. |
