80-160 AQ suited
I played this at my local casino.
I'm UTG+1 with A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] and open raise. Fellow two to my left reraises. Everyone folds back to me and I call. FLOP: 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] I bet, he raises, I call. TURN: Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] I check, he bets, I call. RIVER: 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] I check, he bets, I raise, he calls. Comments? `dude |

Re: 80-160 AQ suited
Without any information on your opponent it's tough to say how you did here. But I'll take a stab. I hate the flop bet. I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish here. If he has AK he will likely call you down with ragged of a flop, and he isnt folding a pair. He will call when he is ahead and likely fold when he is behind. (At least on the turn.) You are going to be trailing a good majority of the time with that flop.
I sorta like the turn and river play. You dont need to bet the turn, since the king is really the only card that you are gonna hate to see fall if it gets checked. If you are ahead, your hand is not very vunerable. Also, you dont want to give him a chance to get away from something like 77. The check raise on the river instead of the turn may keep him from three betting you when you are behind. Even though a lot of strong players may still 3 bet AA or KK here, it's going to be tough for him, so you might save a bet if you are trailing. There's a good chance hell pay off the river raise with a pocket pair. Other than the flop bet I like it. Sorry this is so sloppy, I'm tired. |

Re: 80-160 AQ suited
I think you played it well. Can you lay down to a river 3 bet?
my first thought was why not c/r the turn, but I think waiting until the river is the better play as a free (cheap) card doesnt hurt you as there are no real draws out and 1 of 2 possible overcards helps your hand. c/r on river seems to be a good way to win most/lose least over long run. I put villain on AK, JJ or TT without a read. Likely JJ or TT. |

Re: 80-160 AQ suited
I agree that AK or TT, JJ are possible, but why not KK or even AA? The fact that most players check AK on the river here leads me to conclude that AK is less likely than a pair such as KK.

Re: 80-160 AQ suited
Whenever I raise and I am three-bet before the flop, I think that the most important things to think about are: who re-raised me and what does he think about my play. You gave me nothing on this, so maybe its unknown.
I don't play 80-160 so maybe guys in your game are making a lot of moves. On the flop, I like to check fold against unknown opponents, despite the backdoor draw because a three-better of an EP raise usually means AK or a big pair. In my game, I am probably behind, maybe way behind. However, if I suspect I have an image problem and he is trying to run me over, or my opponent is just wild, I have no problem planning to showdown AQ unimproved. |

Re: 80-160 AQ suited
There are many viable lines you can take here. The one you chose this time is fine. I particularly like how you played the turn and river given the setup on the flop.

Re: 80-160 AQ suited
What the flop bet accomplishes are more bets on future hands when I flop a monster. It also adds deception when I don't want a call on later streets.
