Trying too hard on the river?
Party Poker (7 handed) 5-10 blinds
Preflop: Hero is MP2 with 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. 5 folds. I call in early middle and Villain raises it 25 and I call. Villan is unknown, 24/5 PT stat after 50 hands, which doesnt mean much. He has 1k and I have him covered. Flop: 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero checks. Villain bets half the pot and I call. Turn: T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero checks, Villain checks. Obviously I was going for a check raise here River: 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) I bet 125 into a 175 pot. Villan raises to 300 striaght leaving himself 650. I moved all-in. Insane? gl dd |

Re: Trying too hard on the river?
Why on earth would you ever try to get someone to lay down a 7 here?

Re: Trying too hard on the river?
My read of the hand was that he didnt have a seven. I kinda convinced myself, rightly or wrongly, that he had interpreted my bet as being weak and wanted to move me off the hand. If I move in he can't call unless he has a 7.
Admittedly it didnt feel great. gl dd |

Re: Trying too hard on the river?
I like the idea of the turn cr. The river though, when he raises just fold, that is such a value raise if I have ever seen one in my life. No one is making that with say Ace high in this game trying to make you think that he has a 7 you know? Don't expect to put use the "I know you know I don't have a seven so you are representing a seven with your miniraise but I know you would make that move on me so I reraise cause neither of us have a seven." Almost no one is thinking at this level at 5/10.

Re: Trying too hard on the river?
Dave, you've given in and started playing the game that's popular with all the kids these days. That's a major step!
Good luck, slow down with the bluffing and enjoy the low variance vacation. |

Re: Trying too hard on the river?
Beset,
Good to see u...contrary to these two posted hands I am mostly playing wellish, despite there being areas where I find myself not having a clue. I'm not playing every hand like I'm Mike M on his "tablets". Even after only 3.5k hands this month its very clear the variance is much lower than PLO, especially in a ring game. gl dd |
