$1.00 turbo tournament.
I have played in dozens of the $1.00 turbo tournaments with ~900-1200 players. I constantly end up finishing 175-120, just out of the money...if I do end up in the money, it is low...never final 9. Any suggestions to get me over this hump??

Re: $1.00 turbo tournament.
Do you usually get slowly blinded down to a small stack, or do you go from having a large stack to zero in one shot?

Re: $1.00 turbo tournament.
Always end up with a really small stack when it gets down to the money....never enough to really play with. But when I try to be aggressive early and gain some chips....I seem to get busted.

Re: $1.00 turbo tournament.
Are you getting busted on aggressive moves to steal blinds or by calling or raising when somebody is already in the pot?

More often calling raises.

Re: $1.00 turbo tournament.
Call lesser raises then. It's simple. Think of it this way, if you wouldn't open with a bet if called to you, don't call the raises.
This is still what I need to work on in my own game, I find myself calling raises with marginal hands (KJ, QJ, AJ..) which I really shouldn't. |

Re: $1.00 turbo tournament.
the inflection point in turbos comes much quicker than in regular structured MTT's. Don't be afraid to go into push/fold mode w/ your good hands when you have a little bit larger stack than you would otherwise feel necessary. Two reasons really: the blinds will move much quicker, so you will have less hands until you are in desparation mode and you will get called much more liberally and will have a chance to double up.
Also, try overbetting the pot early when you flop big, you will get paid off more often than not. Don't be afraid of scaring away customers, since $1 does not scare them. Hope this helps. |

Re: $1.00 turbo tournament.
Get aggressive when folded to you in late position. If eveyone folds to you in the CO, button, or SB. Either throw out a good raise or if you have to push in. The blinds in the turbos get very big fast and you have to look to steal them.
Also if you're in the blinds with a medicore hand like KJ suited or A9os don't be afraid to make a call or reraise all in if someone in late position is folded to and then puts in a big raise since they are looking to steal and won't need much of hand if anything at all to push or raise with. |
