Start getting better reads on your opponents. Some players only raise with extremely strong hands and some will take a stab at every pot with a bluff raise. This will make the difference in your decision to make a crying call or not.

I don't think either hand is that bad. I'd most likely pay off in hand 1 as well, it depends on your read of the player.

In hand 2 I definitely call his turn raise but I'd fold the river unimproved. He has your pair of tens beat.

First hand is hard to fold, although calling the flop three bet and check raising the turn may be a good line.

Second hand I would fold preflop, bet the flop, and fold to the turn check raise. I don't see this as hard to fold.

Conclusion: I probably don't fold the river in hand 1, but hand 2 is in an entirely different league as far as how hard it is to fold.

Now that I look at it again, you're right, hand 2 should be folded immediately to the raise. You really don't have correct odds to draw to 2 pair or trips.

I'm not giving my unknowns enough respect. I really think this is my problem. at 1/2 you don't get paid off with your big hands to make up for all the [censored] calling down i probably did at .5/1

god dammit i [censored] suck

Getting check raised on the turn is no fun. You might find this gives you some food for thought:

Popped on the Turn

Hand 1: Call the 3-bet and plan to re-evaluate on the turn. A non-club turn, I'd be tempted to bet/fold. But with the redraw now, I think you can either bet/call this and call down, or check the turn. Then, if he bets you call down. If he checks, bet the river.

Hand 2: Fold to the turn c/r. Calling down in this situation is probably marginally profitable at 0.5/1. At 1/2, making calldowns like these is probably why my W$SD% was sitting around 49% until I started releasing more often.
