Stealing and isolating a single limper.
Triggered by the 25K checkup topic currently up, i routinely see woefully low steal attempt #'s. While this is often a sample size issue since the situation arises rarely in micro, you guys still need to become more comfortable raising hands.
So here's some questions for you to think about. Take a stab first and hopefully a discussion ensues. I'm not an authority figure of any sort on this, but i think there's some room for improvement here for many people. 1. open raise in MP3? 2. open raise in CO? 3. open raise on Button? 4. folded to you in SB? (what do you raise? what do you open-complete?) 5. 1 limper to you in CO/Button? (assume you chose two 20-25 ish VPIP players to your left) 6. CO/Button open raises.. what are your ranges in the SB (for raising? for calling?) 7. CO/Button open raises.. what are your ranges in the BB (for raising? for calling?) (assume CO/Button is a typical 30/5/1.0 player) so answer these before reading other responses.. then see what your fellow posters come up with. also read this which i just bumped. |

Re: Stealing and isolating a single limper.
Sorry to butt in here, but is VP$IP 20-25 bad? I read a post a while ago where people were saying there trying to get their VP$IP up to around 22 or 23.

[/ QUOTE ] the typical .50/1.00 player might be 30 VPIP.. its better to have a tight player or two to your left, so that you are closer to the button on more hands postflop. 20-25 isn't bad.. its slightly tight. that doesn't mean he's a TAG or even decent postflop. he's just willing to fold facing a raise. |

Re: Stealing and isolating a single limper.
I'm going to work off droolie's fine, fine template - but I'm not quite as aggresive
[ QUOTE ] 1. open raise in MP3? [/ QUOTE ] 77+, Any suited broadway, A7s+, AKo-ATo, KQo, KJo [ QUOTE ] 2. open raise in CO? [/ QUOTE ] add 66, 55, A9o, KTs, K9s, K8s, QJ [ QUOTE ] 3. open raise on Button? [/ QUOTE ] add 44, Axo, T9s, K7s, K6s, Q9s, J9s, QTo. [ QUOTE ] 4. folded to you in SB? (what do you raise? what do you open-complete?) [/ QUOTE ] not completely sure, but i'm not open-completing ever these days [ QUOTE ] 5. 1 limper to you in CO/Button? [/ QUOTE ] Same as 1. still thinking about 6 and 7. i also feel like i'm either missing some hands or not being completely honest about what i'm raising with (or not often being faced with an open raise opportunity...) |

Re: Stealing and isolating a single limper.
Why? You already have 0.5 SB in the pot but when you fail, you're out of position HU.
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] 4. folded to you in SB? (what do you raise? what do you open-complete?) [/ QUOTE ] Raise any two. [/ QUOTE ] |

Most have no idea how to handle these situations and even if they call my pf raise will often fold if the flop misses them. If the opponent is tougher I won't raise with any two. |

Re: Stealing and isolating a single limper.
Bleh, I was typing out my response, almost had it done then closed the window while trying to minimize it.
1. 77-AA, Axs, A9-AK, K9-KQ, Q9-QJ, J9-JT 2. All of 1 plus Axo 3. All of 1 and 2 plus 22-66, suited connectors from 65-T9, T9o 4. Raise: All of 1, 2, 3. Complete: Nothing. 5. 1 and 2. 6. 1 and 2. 7. 1. I know I'm too tight. Blast away |
