Tropicana AC a dump?
I'm staying at the Trop in a few days instead of my usual stay at the sweet, sweet Borg (basically because I wasn't up for the waits at the Borg this time and because for once the Trop was as cheap as teh Borg's poker rate) and, having read some really terrible reviews of the hotel/rooms on the internet (after I booked, cos that's the way I like to operate ), I'm wondering if I've made a big mistake. I realised that it wouldn't be as nice as the Borg, but some of the reviews make it sound like a real dump. I'm staying in the old bit, not the Havana tower, which is apparently particularly grim.
What should I expect? Is it that bad a hotel? (NB I'm interested in thoughts on it as a hotel, not the cardroom). |

Re: Tropicana AC a dump?
I stayed there last summer and it was fine. Never stayed at Borgata, so I can't factor in the letdown effect. I also ran great when I played, so maybe that accounts for my view.

The Taj hotel rooms are a dump. Trop was just fine, even in the old rooms.

I think the Taj rooms are better then the Trop but they're all better then Super 8.
What rate did you get and how? |

"What rate did you get and how? "
No special rate as such, I just checked availability on their website and it offered me a room for 72 bucks including taxes. They seem to have some kind of special offer going at the moment. |

Re: Tropicana AC a dump?
Its pretty bad.
No game selection, crappy rooms, nasty crack whore waitresses who will bring you beer in a 6 oz plastic cup, dirty rooms, bad dealers, and a parking garage that may or may not collapse on you. So yeah I would stick to Borgata. |

If Borg is a 9, old rooms are a 6, new 7 (just for "newness", really). Not any great features, but perfectly fine. Biggest knock on the new tower is distance from the casino. You have to walk entirely through the Quarter to get to the tower elevators. Luckily, the poker room is one of the closer casino points to the Quarter. |

Re: Tropicana AC a dump?
I'm going tomorrow night. The reservation w/ Poker rate is $49. After taxes and all that, it's about $62. If you are going just to play poker and sleep, the rooms are fine. But if it's a romantic getaway, you should be shelling out cash for the new rooms anyway. The biggest problem with the room is the fact that the lights outside are so bright. With the blinds closed, it's not so bad but light still gets in.
But the rooms are not trashy or bad smelling if that's what you mean. |

I've stayed in the old tower several times and never had a problem. It's not glamourous but is functional for a good night's sleep. |
