KK 40-80 OR an interesting way to spend $320
i got KK utg in a good live 40-80 game last night. i raised, was cold called in 3 spots and the bb called. 5 of us.
the flop is J97 rainbow. i bet, next guy calls, lady who is loose and fairly passive raises, a tightish player cold calls her raise, bb who is very fishy and very loose cold calls, i 3 bet, guy calls, she caps it screaming "pocket aces no good!" at me, all call. 5 of us still. the turn is a Q. bb chceks, i think about betting and check, guy checks, lady bets, bb calls, i call. now just 3 of us. bb screams "river! river!" and a K peels off. he jumps out of his chair: "RIVER!" and splashes 8 chips across the table. then he starts dancing around and giggling through a huge smile. he sees me thinking and chants "i got there, i got there, hehehehhehehehehhehe!!". the lady to my left has a very sour angry look on her face. i fold. |

I don't know if you're looking for comments on the hand or not. the woman who has a sour look on her face probably didn't flop a straight since she'd have to figure she's still good for half the pot. it sucks but I don't know. I feel like she flopped a set.
so is this guy being a lying douchebag often enough? there's $1520 in the pot and the woman will overcall so make it $1600. you just said he's loose and fishy, nothing about his aggression. it would be an easier call if you didn't have 2 of the 3 kings becasue kings up would be possible also consider how much it would suck to lose to this idiot. that would put me on tilt for weeks |

no i wasnt asking if i should call the river, i was very very certain i was beat. the only debatable streets imo were the flop and turn.

on the flop there are enough players in and the pot is big enough that (1) if you're ahead you have no prayer of protecting your hand and just want to jam the pot, and (2) you don't need to win it that often to jam the pot.
once you get capped by someone who's passive I'd like to get to showdown cheaply. I don't see what betting the turn accomplishes. no sense in protecting the 2nd best hand, right? not like bottom pair who got this far will fold for one bet, cleaning up two outs for kings-up, and it's not like a T is folding to clean up your set outs. if she checks through, I'll just be thankful she gave me a free card to my draw I hope that guy tripped and fell on his way to the cage to cash out and everyone in the casino ran and took his chips |

nah everyone would help him up and dust him off with a smile. the easier and more entertaining way to get his chips is to just sit at a poker table with him. |

So in answer to sthief09's post, you don't think "this guy being a lying douchebag often enough?". I just got too tired to think straight about your flop and turn play. ~ Rick |

I dont think you should 3bet the flop. Too many bad turn cards. See the turn and take it from there. There are a lot of cards you have to dodge on the turn and river if you arent drawing almost dead on the flop.

the way I look at it is, as long as her being slightly passive doesn't mean that she has you beat most of the time (ie she'd raise TPTK or TP+gutter or a big draw like QT), and if you probably won't have an opportunity to protect your hand on the turn, you mgiht as well jam. you could wait for a nice deuce on the turn and increase your equity, but with that many people in I dno't know. I feel like you'd jam a big draw here, and your hand's gotta have at least as much value right now as QT. I see the merit of waiting for your equity to increase though. also waiting for the turn will sometimes leave you wondering where you're at, and how many outs you have if behind when faced with a 3-bet.

i think sthief is right that you gotta 3bet just in case shes flopped a pair + draw. also now that i've seen the results, with so many people in, you're getting good equity to make 2 pair if thats what she as.
by not 3 betting the flop you really aren't defining your hand and i feel like you'd have to donk bet the turn, but i hate that line compared to 3betting the flop. would you check call the turn ? stealthcow |
